Shut Up & Jump Over Board All Ready
by on September 10th, 2008
Hola folks, I'm back..... Took a break, anyways, let's begin.
I need everyone to repeat after me. "Unity"
The south is very well united. But its a few areas missing that unity, but no bigger place missing unity than New York. If it wasn't for the collapse of such powerhouses as G-Unit, Rocafella & DipSet among others we probably wouldn't hear most of the southern music that's promoted today. Those three groups could still be running the rap game today if they didn't let things get in between the music.
But the even bigger problem is the fans.
You people complain too damn much. More specifically, the "hip hop heads" are those who do the most bitching. Y'all complain about the simplest shit too. You cry over The T-Pain Effect, music on the radio & sales among other shit. If you don't like what's on the radio, turn it off, if you don't like hearing the T-Pain Effect, turn it off. Because by not turning it off, you prove the record execs right. The T-Pain effect is a gimmick used by most to get promo and by listening whether you like it or not just proves that its an effective tool interest people into listening. Hip Hop Heads have this sort of complex, the word for it escapes me at the moment but, y'all believe sales don't dictate quality, but you believe anyone who you think is a good MC, you think they should sell records. See how stupid that sounds.
It's impossible to sell records off skills alone. You need promo and a sound to reach the MASSES. Artists like Joe Budden and Talib and all those "emcees", they don't make music for the masses and they accept where they are as of now, so they make music towards their solid fan bases and sell to those alone but y'all hate on others like Soulja Boy who go out and get those fans that others can't reach. I wouldn't go out and purchase an album from him but his music is what is, its for partying and hanging out and those people who do such on a regular should go out and support him, and they did, he went platinum even tho at least 60% of his album had been heard by most of his fans like 7 months before he even blew up.
Don't expect any change in the trends in the rap game, so either stop listening or find some underground artists to bump.
O yea, speaking trends..... Word on the street is KanYe's next LP, 808's & Heartbreak, is said to be heavy on the T-Pain effect, so yea..... if you don't like it, don't listen, there's no reason to bitch and moan..... Dec. 16.

Side Note: This is my favorite song of the moment....

also, people complain WAY too much about LYRICISM
u dont have to have a punchline every bar to be a good artist
i think a rapper should have DECENT lyricism but not everybody has to be a lupe, papoose, nas, etc..
i think FLOW is more important than lyricism…shit u could have the best lyrics in the world but if u have a boring ass flow im not listening
if u have a flow/voice that sounds good over tracks people listen to the actual shit ur sayin without trying to twist through metaphors and subliminals
some rappers (jay, nas) are talented in both areas but u dont have to be a legend to be a good artist
open ur ears up
Your grouped “hip-hop heads” as hating auto tune and loving for the most part “under ground” music. That auto-tune shit was hot ass fuck when Roger Troutman, George Clinton and others used it in the past. Even when T-Pain used it, it was hot. But when every body and they mother uses it, it gets played out and corney.
I like listen to everything, radio included. But when they play the same shit every 2 hours, I get frustrated, turn that shit off, and put in my Cds.
Also it’s not impossible to sell records off of skills alone, Eminem and Jay are proof of that. Others like TI, Jeezy, Game…. are proving that too. You can sell records with skill, it’s all about marketing (the 1st single, release date, promotion etc…) People you mentioned like Talib and Budden were never known for doing major numbers. It’s not that they’re “too lyrical” or “underground” they just don’t sell period.
DEC 16 DA REALEST
and your comment about expecting underground rappers to sell is just ludicrous…..i have never once expected or cared how much lupe, talib or mos def sell……the only time i have ever cared was when kanye wiped 50’s assssss all over the floor…..
but other than that complaint, SPOT ON OLD CHUM….
-—————— This is a DUMB FUCKIN’ TOPIC-————————————————-I say that because, the writers of a blog shouldn’t criticize the comments made by the contributors. Simply speaking, since the context criticizes about 75% of what gets said on these blogs and news topics, suppose all of those people, including me, actually listened? Then, there’d be NO WEBSITE. Point blank.
I remember defsounds when many topics at a time would only have like 15 comments… It was only once in a blue moon if topics got 50-60 comments, and now, topics are getting 100+ comments with regularity. And, I don’t mean people double and triple posting, either.
Maybe you guys forgot that, but I didn’t. You guys create blogs and editorials downing and criticizing the contributors comments; let the contributors do that to each other. Because, within all the b.s. and all the nonsense, some of these guys, younger AND older, SOMETIMES hit nails on the coffin and are right on the money. AND, even in the so-called, DUMB ASS comments, a lot of times they DO provide entertainment, regardless.
That’s why I come on here, for the news AND the entertainment value. Maybe, sometimes I say a thing or two that enlightens someone’s thought processes or teaches someone something. Sometimes I piss people off or am DEAD WRONG. Same goes for everyone else. So, just relax, take a deep breath, count to ten, and let people say what they want to say and big up their favorite artists, whether it be Weezy, Jeezy, T.I., Lupe, Cam, Nas, Lauryn, or Jay!

oh yea that new Helta Skelta song go hard!
“they should have never game them niggas computers.com”
Anyways I wrote this article or at least hinted to its content already..Read my profile..Not being cocky or anything but if you read my profile, I was prophetic on this one..Anyways proceed to trash.
and hip-hop heads and sneaker-heads are a like..They act like if you ain’t listenin to Murs, 7L and Esoteric you don’t know what hip hop is..A good mc who can’t sell records, I call them “Baltimore Raven’s Rappers”..Good defense, no offense..Occasionally you have to score.
hAHHAHAHAA… THAT’S HOT AS HELL!!! “Baltimore Ravens Rappers!!” I like that very much!! You’re on point wit’ that one!
AND I HAVE NOTICED THAT MORE RAPPERS ARE USING THE T-PAIN EFFECT WHICH TO ME IS GETTING PLAYED OUT NOW….JUST LEAVE IT TO T-PAIN ONLY. I DON’T REALLY WANT TO HEAR LIL WAYNE CHANGING HIS STYLE FOR THAT VOCODER SHIT, THATS NOT THE LIL WAYNE I KNOW I JUST WANT TO HEAR FIRE LIKE “GOSSIP”! BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS SO FUCK IT.
KANYE’S ALBUM IS NOT GOING TO BE NO JOKE AND THERE WILL BE SOME BANGERS ON THE ALBUM. YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE YOU WILL GET SOME VOCODER SHIT ON THERE LIKE “LOCKDOWN” AND THAT TRACK IS DOPE!
P.S THEN YOU GOT THE HATERADE DRINKERS, ALWAYS PUTTING DOWN PEOPLE WHO WANT TO ACHIEVE IN MUSIC AS A RAPPER, ALWAYS TALKING SHIT AND JUST HATING. THE ONLY PERSON WE SHOULD BE HATING IS THE FUCKING DEVIL.
BLACK WALLSTREET BITCH!!!
We dont care if you like us or not…..We dont think about the south….Your not gonna walk into the barber shop and cop a TI mixtape…your gonna get that jadakiss or saigon etc….We have hott artists for dayz..yall just arent checkin for them b/c you dont know where to look…
Point Blank if you want REAL lyricsm, punchlines, metaphors and real world street music…..Listen to some NY Hip HOp
If you want to have diamonds on your damn chain, get silly, and walk it out while sippin sizzurp…then you know where to go
NY makes music for real niggas on the block….and thats the difference
we started this shit….and niggas gonna say we are wack…Please….
thats why half of you are Jockin Jay-z……
(i hate that song lol)
50,Diddy,and Jay
so really what is the south running?
Not the money obviously
1^
West Coast was the 2nd act. Their production was pioneering to say the least. Dr. Dre is the master of the control boards. Lyrics not as strong as New Yorks but they had certain style that came from the low-riding community and gang community. No one knew what ghost riding the whip or putting hydrolics on your car was. That’s west coastin.
Midwest,South…I tend to take chicago out of the Midwest..It’s resembles to much of New York..so i’m not dissin chi-town, people!
Somehow Midwest cats snuck on the stage..Midwest took elements of New York and West Coast rap and fused them. Then put a twang on it..Well in doing this West Coast was shot and killed and New York was left battered and bruised.
The South(Souf, as my cousins would say)
They didn’t kill it…They capitalized on the formula West Coast was doing..Immaculate production, decent lyrics and great MARKETING. Then much like S.E.C. football the fans stretch from VA, South to Florida and west to Texas..That’s a lot of fucking people! You have 10-15 states that listen to this exclusively. So you can stay local and make a decent living..While as New York and West Coast is delegated to their respective states.
New York and West Coast talked about trivial shit too! Selling, dealing and robbing, but they mixed it up with a “Dear Mama” and “Song Cry”…The South is exclusively selling, dealing, robbing and then most importantly “Making it Rain”….
The South is just on stage now and I like most fellow Southerners know it will be short lived..It’s only been 3-4 years..Ya’ll act like its been a decade!! I mean How many times can you “Get Silly” and how many girls are looking for a “Hood Nigga” especially when Barack is about to be in office? lol case in point put on a universal track talking about money.
Lil Wayne and T-Pain “Got Money”
T.I. and Young Jeezy “I got Money”
Junior Mafia feat. B.I.G. “Get Money”
As a DJ I’ve done my own case studies by playin these 3 sounds over the course of a party and seeing the reaction of the crowd…After spinning 10 Souf songs talking about “Get low” and “Whoop that trick”, something like Junior Mafia’s “Get Money” comes on and the crowd goes wild!!!!!
That’s the difference. The South’s production trances you for those 3 weeks but after that, most of the beats get stale. Who’s next though?
Va is beautiful..You got Hampton, V-State, Howard in DC, North Carolina A&T on the border and Norfolk State by the beach..Some of the finest sistas on the planet..Don’t know why I left!!!!!!
Virginia is tricky..We are the EAST COAST…We are the glue that brings balance to everything..Now if you read my comment, i never said VA was the dirty Souf! I said much like S.E.C. football, Southern Music has an influence in VA..Hell the first time I listened to Gucci Mane was in my niggas whip(he goes to hampton)..I heard of him but never listened to him.. Thats when I knew Southern Music is everywhere…
Music has its time and place..When i’m coming home from the club(as of right now) I don’t want to hear “One Mic”…I want to hear “Freaky Gurl” cuz hopefully the chick i pulled is “bout it, bout it”~Master P.
Man I want to go home..Va is my home…I miss my sistahs!!! They be stoppin by my momma’s house askin for me..I be like damn!!! hit a nigga up on facebook or somethin!!! Va is the shit and even though I’m in Florida now, my heart is always in VA!!!
Good Post my dude!
i fuckin hate ignorant ass black people always tryin to say white people dont want them to succeed believe me if we didnt wnt you to succeed you think soulja fuckin boy would be rich what about alex haley yea shut the fuck up fagget.
ReDef.
oh and CAMron is BACK!!!!!!!
But let’s keep it real for a second, shit will be mad premature to blame only the consumers aka fans for this mess, yes I agree the fans have had a major roll in the down fall of hip-hop, shit while we at, let’s not spare the Execs, but ain’t no way I will let the DJ’s & Artist slide…WHAT?
The artist:
1st of all, their yes man need to get lined up & killed firing squad style or sent to Iraq for their roles,…worrrrrrd up. You can’t tell me when sonn steps in the booth drops that hot garbage, that nobody in his camp is saying ‘yo that shit is wack go back in’,…or better yet as an artist why not devote 100% to your craft…come on now, could you imagine how shitty KRS-1 would have sounded back then if he had 100 ventures to run beside write a hot 16? I mean who is just an MC now days? Everybody has their own shity record label, their shit clothing line, shity, shity, shity…
When an Mc says ‘I ain’t an rapper I’m a hustler’ then why are surprised the quality of music has declined, they say they rapping,…now why are we hereing from them?
That’s where I blame these DJs
DJs: Honestly, these dudes where the gate keeper of hip hop, nobody could touch the MIC with out the DJ’s blessing. But now these DJ’s are encouraging garbage to be produced & reproduced, they put their man on knowing God damn well sonn 16 is wack. Now the other dude that’s hot don’t get even a spin b/c the DJ is hating.
And rembember when DJ’s was like ‘nah sonn, ur shit needs so more work I can’t play that’,…why don’t the do that no more? You mean to tell me DL4 & them Franchise boys are hot enough to be on hot 97? Hell No all those DJ’s shouldn’t even dream of mixing that shit in on the air.
Man I rather stop here, but the problem is deeper then what’s on the surface.
Hip hop will be fine, I support real ish, I’m banging out to mood musik 2, and if any of you say what’s that, then it’s cool, the cd probably wasn’t meant for you
The club bangers that get the dumb bitches buying records…. I don’t hate that…. get your paper. But please counter that with thought-provoking, REAL hip hop for us….that’s all we ask.
AND BIG UPS 2 DUDE ABOVE ME HE KNOWS WUT IT IS
free palestine
word. It pisses me off when people just moan about it.
Those saying the North is wack now, how are you gonna say that with all of this from 5 burroughs of 1 city ALONE:
Bronx got Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Big Pun, Hell Rell, Mysonne, Drag-On, & Camp Lo.
Brooklyn put out Busta Rhymes, Sheek Louch, GZA, Lil Mama, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Fabolous, Papoose, Joell Ortiz, O.C., AZ, Ill Bill, GangStarr, KRS-One, Phife Dawg, Pumpkinhead, Masta Ace, Keith Murray, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Masta Killa, ODB, Rise, Foxy Brown, & Big Daddy Kane.
Queens gave us Stack Bundles, A Tribe Called Quest, Grafh, 50 Cent, Black Sheep, Organized Konfusion, Nas, Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J, Pharoahe Monch, Big Noyd, Cormega, Lloyd Banks, & Styles P.
Staten Island gave us most of Wu-Tang: RZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, U-God, & Inspectah Deck.
Manhattan gave us 2Pac, Big L, Ma$e, Cam’Ron, Bloodshed, Juelz Santana, Joe Buddens, Loon, Jim Jones, JR Writer, & Kurtis Blow.
-———————————————————————————Bruh you named all these artist from NY and not even half of these dudes/females have hits out right now or have albums that are even moving units.
Although this is a VERY talented list of artist you have here, only a hand full of these artist are noticed around the country (not including the legends).
50, Fabolous, Busta, Jay, Nas, Fat Joe, LL, Jim Jones and Jadakiss (from time to time on features), are really the only NY rappers that are rellevant right now.
Just like the article said, you have all that talent up there BUT NO UNITY….you cats are greedy, selfish and grimey…..Down south, you see more collabs than ever. We even collab with NY artist, ask Jada or Jim Jones or Fat Joe why they jump on southern style songs now?
NY was the inventor of Hip Hop, but MUSIC, American music was created in the south. Blues, Jazz, Country, whatever you name it. Its in our blood down here its come natrual just like freestyling and battle rappin comes natural to East Coast artist.
Music has a purpose and an audience when its made. That why you have club songs, songs for the ladies, for the streets, for the cars, to chill to, its all Hip Hop…Fans is why hip hop is “supposedly” dead…everybody wants to divide it and say what is right and wrong.
