COMMENTS
Not even the least bit suprised. Its kanye, the king of samples lol
yeah sampling is cool when you do it every once and a while, but this is like every hit song by kanye right here that is heavily made from samples. seomtimes you gotta make your own shit, keep the game original.
im glad he be usin samples from other songs...cuz it keeps music alive by reinvinting (spell check) in a different way and genre. It turns music that most ppl may have forgot about into sumthin creative. And Kanye won't deny sampling songs all tha time (they got vids wit him in tha studio listenin to off tha wall shit, u think was normal) Btw this was basically a complation of this niggas greatest hits..."spaceship" and "never let me down" is my all time favorites from Kanye. Oh and u wud know all this shit dat they showed in this video if u read the production credits...he gives the credits to all the original songs so....yea.....
oh and good look on tha 808's and mixtapes picture...
In a way its cool how he can sample older songs and make them his own. Not his newer stuff though. I wanna hear more College Dropout type music from Kanye. That album was his best in my view.
!!MUSIC IS ALL RECYCLED!!
people are just ignorant if they didn't realise kanye sampled most of his hits?? didn't you see kanye kiss his chaka khan poster in the through the wire video?
he's been inspired by all this music alll his life, so why not involve it in his own work?
playing this video made me realise how great kanye's music carear has been..
kanye has the gift to evolve music, he twists classics into his own unique theme, dont hate him for it
Kanye never said he doesn't sample. In fact, I specifically recall him saying that he spent hours listening to records and old material in the studio before 'Graduation'.
This isn't exactly breaking news.
Plus, while some of the samples may still be fairly well-known, a LOT of them aren't. At least not to the relatively younger generation. Given how past people play and dispose of music nowadays, sampling is probably the best way to keep some music alive.
*fast (not past)
But yeah, people hate on Kanye way too much. At least he's standing out. Most rappers that try to stand out, don't become popular. And most of the ones that do become popular, start putting out the same stuff we always hear.
So props to Kanye for keeping some of the older music alive and keeping things fresh.
Crazy cuz i was just on www.WhoSampled.Com all weekend and they have every artist that has sampled and i was just checkin it all out. Kanye's a genius. Sampling is genius. These Beats are Fire. Kanye is a Super Producer and his samples just add more flavor to the his music. "ill be late for that"
Well first of all, you're kinda reaching with the whole keeping the old music alive stuff. Second, you can't keep older things alive and keep it fresh at the same time.
He doesn't keep it alive, he just takes a small sample and in a way totally overshadows the original song with bass and drums. Not to mention the Hip-Hop beats typically follows a 4 second rhythm, so realistically in terms of whether he's supporting the originality of the song or not, he's probably just indirectly leaching off their originality for his talent to sample.
Also using your logic, 50 Cent can just keep rapping about guns, bitches, cars, drugs, and money since he's "keeping some of the older music alive." But hey, I bought 808's & Heartbreaks, I just dislike the idea of you trying too hard to defend an artist. West has a knack/good eye for sampling, that's it.
kanye never said he didnt sample
in fact he has said how much he likes to sample old classic songs and put his own spin on it
i personally love it and i give kanye mad repsect for the things he has done in his career of music
the fact that he can apriciate such old music and use it to express himself in a way that nobody else really does
samples are becoming more and more common today and i think a lot of it has to do with kanye
theres nothing wrong with puttin a hip hop spin on old school music
and its not like he steals the sapmles, he has to get clearance to do it
his new album is gonna be a piece of shit.
This video does show how great of a career Kanye has had...and the fact that he samples all these songs shows his knowledge of different music and also makes us know a bit more...he admits doing it aswell
i've listened to alot of these songs in the past but only since i had heard em on Kanyes albums...this video is like a Kanye/ classic music tribute lol
also did you all see the GOOD LIFE vid Kanye??....you can really see how much of a different person he is now...the happyness, the hair, everything...i really really noticed when i saw that just now....the old Kanye is gone forever.....
was this supposed to surprise anyone, its no secret kanye samples songs, its not like he recycles bars or has ghostwriters, his rhymes are original and so are his songs, he takes all of these old ass songs and creates them into modern day hip hop while retaining the original essence of the song that he samples.
OMFG!! ARE U SERIOUS?! KANYE WEST SAMPLES OTHER PEOPLE'S MUSIC TO MAKE HIS BEATS?! HOLY CRAP, I DID NOT KNOW THAT!! LMFAO
no shit, anybody with the tiniest bit of a brain could have told u that lol
So wait a minute, are you saying that rappers sample others music? No way.
I have mixed emotions about this.
1... It's cool to keep other songs "alive" or pay homage or what not...
BUT... I can't give credit to someone that used samples for 99.9% of their beats. I just can't. Sorry.
It's cool being inspired by artists, or their music...
But being inspired by & just flat out borrowing beat after beat after beat are 2 totally different things.
I'm not hating... but I remember when Puffy was killin' the game with sample after sample...everybody bitched about it. NOW that Kanye is pretty much the new "Puffy"... it's acceptable?
But then again...i'm not surprised at all. Just like i'm not surprised that T-pain borrowed and ran with Roger's style and we accepted it...and rapper's are now SINGIN' ROCKERS...that ironically claim to be GANGSTERS!
Thugs in fitted jeans??? Interesting...
Anyways... it's cool sampling and paying homage, or doing tributes. But if damn near every hit u had has a "sample" as its foundation....then u need to re-invent yaself, go put in some real work in the studio...or simply give it up.
Especially if u'r throwing bitch-fits because u'r not put on the "pedastool" that u think u deserve to be on.
Caps...good shit fam! Alot of yall are saying that if it wasnt for Kanye we wouldnt know about all of these artist existing. That's BULLSHIT!
Not because i'm extremely musically inclined. But because YE' NEVER talks about the originals that he steals.
UNLESS it's someone obvious like Ray Charles, Luther, etc etc. But the lesser known people...he NEVER gives props to. He only lists their names....very small...in the credits. And that's because HE HAS TO!
Stop trying to defend people and just state the obvious...
OBVIOUS STATMENT:
To be called a "super producer" he BORROWS far far too much! PERIOD! Regardless of how hott the tracks are.
~Be Eazy!
To be called a "super producer" he BORROWS far far too much! PERIOD! Regardless of how hott the tracks are.
word
Who the fuck cares if he's biting? All kinds of muphukkas sample (music, clothes, etc.) All of them songs he sampled from were JEWELS. Thats how music is. Ain't nothin wrong with that.
yeah but ive only heard like 2 or 3 of those songs before i heard kanye's version.. so who gives a fuck unless you're 80 and you happen to listen to kanye west and music from the 60's
Plain and Simple, Kanye is the Carlos Mencia of Hip hop... having the sheer ability to perform well and entertain others does not earn a musician the same credit as an actual originator. Does Puffy deserve a grammy? Did he pull the "creativity" card for a an album that was wack? Hell No!! Kanye is not a genius or an artist, he is house nigga. His art school education and stylistic emulation of Salvador Dali is wack, 808 heartbreaks is not raw. You cant tell me nothing! Nothing new at least...
I WAS SAYING THIS WAS OLD NEWS THAT HE WAS SAMPLING OLD SONGS BUT SOME SONGS I DIDNT EVEN KNOW HE SAMPLED LIKE "CRACK MUSIC" OR "HEARTLESS" DAMN KANYE IS MOTIVATION FOR ME MAN
did u actually call kanye the king of samples.....because i should slap the motherfucking taste out of your mouth for that......goddamn, dilla must be spinning in his grave with a statement like that....and all these fools gave you props too.....jus gross.....dont get me wrong, i love kanye, but any true fan of hip hop has to respect the truth......people like pete rock and premier who led the way and mastered the sampling game like no one else.....
and yo....skeazaleo
i would love for you to name me who you think a hip hop super producer is in your mind.....and let me just explain to you how much they borrow from other people too....
hip hop was built off sampling and therefore this argument is just ridiculous....
if you dont respect it as an art, fine, go make some akon beats or something....
the fact is, everyone and there fucking mother nowadays can and does produce and samples, and only a select few are recognized as legends in the game.....why??? if its so easy to do, why isnt everyone making beats like kanye, and primo and dilla......
i'm out
To: Dont shoot em
First off, I see u must be about 15 yrs old. If you only know about 2 or 3 of those songs, WTF can u say about music? You should be taking this all in... ABSORB some of this shit. Lil young muphukkas...
Who the fuck is this cornball KingKoopa74 talking about "at least Kanye Stands out".I'll would stand out to if I was walking down the street with duffle bags filled with others niggas music.
Muthafuka its called sampling. Producers do it all the time. Wooooooooooow, SOOOOO SHOCKING. Especially for Kanye......right. The shit still sound good though, so why complain
They left out pong.
internet gang banger
Why do you have numbers in all your words??? Lets at least try to act alliterate
u know what else gets old and looks really retarded? typing with numbers in ur words.
Dumb ass nigga Kanye's style is creative and is not just limited to samples een without the samples he would still be an execellent proucer an if he he used Fl studios he still be bangin out hits bitch
http://www.myspace.com/bkofficialmusic
yoo dude eddie 6rokk yu an idiot for typin some dumb shit witt 6s and 7s
thats shits dumb annoying
co-sign^^
i like the fact he does use samples, its interesting to see which one hes gonna use next, and he uses them so well, they wouldnt b great tracks without sampling.
exactly.
Don't blame Eddie 6crokk, it ain't his fault dat his ghetto-ass-keyboard ain't got no "B" or "L"!
:sigh: There truly are idiots on defsounds. WHY do you all keep repeating the same dame thing in every comment. you all are saying the same thing, if the 5 ppl be4 u said kanye never denied it blah blah blah then don't you think we get the point.
Anyway an intelligent person would have realized that the intent of the video was not to "expose" Kanye of sampling, but show the ridiculousness (sp) of just HOW MUCH he samples. As a producer I would think he would have some original songs, and since he doesn't seem to, I wouldn't respect him as much someone who works hard to CREATE classic joints. As producer part of the talent is being able to create what most can't.
we should do 9th Wonder
dude is a sample attic
Nigga STFU
9th Wonder is da truth n he way better than Kanye
Whats wrong with these samples? People act like he steals whole verses. Im preety sure the people he samples from are not complaing when he signs that check. Just shows he listens to alot of music and he aint afraid to use something he likes. Besides most rappers wouldnt of even used the samples. I know i wouldnt of heard most of the songs if Kanye didnt sample them.
totally agree... he breathes new life into songs that im sure most people may never have heard otherwise... and i believe he credits all his samples... so this is really GREAT groundbreaking investigative work by defsounds... fine work!.. totally blew the lid off that whole hip hop loves to sample thing... this is blatant haterism...and im white and barely know what 'haterism' means.. but this is a clear example!.. haha.. "hip hop producers sample on virtually every beat"... defsounds keep up the amazing work!! so impressive...
this ain't new, we knew from the beginning that he samples most of his shit and he sample shit that you prolly wuda neva listen 2 n make it hot so why da fuck do it matter?
it matters because its like every song man. people say kanye makes the most fire beats but when in reality he just speeds up or slows down a sample and adds a drum track and maybe some melody/harmony.
and then he even claims that, "he dont care what the critics say cause he knows his new album is a beautiful work of art" get the fuck outta here hes just doin the same old shit but whinin with autotune over it. theres nothin original goin on here.
plus: to all those who claim no one would know these songs if it wasnt for kanye is a fool.
ray charles, erika badu, shit man the list goes on and on > kanye west
Caps stop fronting. Some of those songs you know you wouldnt of heard. Daft Punk?
im not sayin i knew every song on that list. im just saying when your supposed to be one of hip hops greatest producers you shouldnt be sampling on every beat you make. its that simple. go out and actually learn music theory and make your shit from the ground up every now and then. anyone can add percussion to a track, it isnt hard, but to construct an original melody with real instruments, or even a god damn keyboard takes skill.
I see what you saying. But How can you call someone a fool for saying that they wouldnt know most of songs unless Kanye sampled them?
I didnt know some of those songs because they were just before my time. He sampled songs from different time period/geners some shit that you would just have to know where it originated to know where he took it from.
It is actually fly how he flips samples. As long as he gives credit to those he sampled. I have absolutely no problems with it.
It just shows how much influene the past can have on the present Kanye is one of the greatest producers of all time him and pharelle hands down
http://www.myspace.com/bkofficialmusic
even though he used samples, nobody would do or can do the sounds he did on college dropout & late registration, thats what makes his style unique (n i ain't talkin bout his new shit)!, thats his genre!!... just like u got,
timbo for the craziest beats, storch for the bass beats & swizzy for the ''jump around & through your hands in tha air'' beats, u got Kanye for the sample beats..
Yall really need to listen to the band "Tv on the Radio"..songs "wolf like me", "tonite", "staring at the sun"
Basically 808 coveted the whole thing.
Sampling is a great thing. When I found out where Jigga got the "Blueprint 2" beat from my face fuckin melted. Greatest sample of all time. Youtube it!!!!
im lazy gimme the link...
ok i heard it...that shit was ill...but it sounds like tha song from the lebron james commercial...the one with him clappin tha powder shit erry where.....wierd....
yo its sick how he samples songs and turn them into something complete different.........greatest beat maker ever he could make all type of beats hard slow classical....etc
@youngunbaby
Lol I'm on a phone man. It would take forever. Just youtube "blueprint 2" and in the related videos there will be an opera singer, orchestra. Listen to that song then jigga on blueprint 2 and that's why I'm a believer. I don't know how they listened to that beat and decided to rap on it. Truly great.
why bring this out he openly admits to using samples. It shows his cretivity as a producer keep it coming knye just lay of the vocoder a bit
And who said there was something wrong with sampling?
damn a bunch of these songs of kanye i really lyked and respected him for his producing skills as well but now im really surprised. sure some of them he sampled and made into some really gud music but i feel lyk ivlost some respect for him as a producer. being able to sample songs and make hits out of them does not make u such a gud producer; damn i dont know wat to think.
i mean sure, you can sample a few songs, aint nothin wrong with that but damn that was fuck-loads of songs he sampled. and i always thought kanye was a really original producer but after watching this my respect for him as a producer has dropped a lot. but with all that said he still has made some crzy hits from sampling but i aint gonna complain. i just hope he goes bak to bein the old kanye after this autotune mumbo jumbo hes doin nowadays.
Why was a blog post even made on this? Like no one knew this...... lmao
He brings older music alive, that is a bad thing? People are just mad 808s did very well.
that joovy xl is full of balls on radio shows when hes advertising an album hel tell what songs he sampled from its not as if he just takes it and doesnt do nothing to it. Sampling is hard you have to know what works with it. he always says for hours he would just listen to samples until he got the right one. it also show that he knows what gos into a hiphop song. Champion was sampled from a 60s british group. And yet its awesome as a song
@beast from east
"Champion" was sampled from Steely Dan.
"Drunk and hot girls" was a really weird sample. German band, forgot the name, but it was so loosely sampled there was no need to credit it.
Sometimes artist, such as Kanye just sample a small section of the song. A simple chord, Or a few keys, A drum sequence. Its not like he's taking the whole song from them. And Kanye he acknowledging and paying these artist to barrow their work.
Come on Like honestly Who really couldnt figure out that he was sampling all those song I mean seriously u either gotta not listen to music or be deaf not to here all the samples. And beside everyone samples and at the end of the day if the songs hot its hot.
wow big deal. i love how kanye brings other genres or music and incorporated it into his music.....i just wish other people would listen to other music too.the only shame is we as fans of kanye don't appreciate what he sampled when we hear the real songs in which he sampled
Duhh Who Didnt No This Is Where Some Of These Samplez Kame From Duhh ErBod Uses Samples Ma Fuka... Kome On Wat Yall Gone Hit Kanye Wit Next He Dnt Write His Own Rhymes... Yea Right Niggaz Get Off Tha Niggaz Dik(No Homo)
because homie.....its like when you eat pizza, with different toppings........
its still pizza but with a whole different flavor added to is
I had a free "sample" of cheese pizza @ dis new pizza shop da otha day and it tasted like shit! Dat's proof dat sampling isn't always a good idea.
what the hell are you talking about? your problem is your senses are shit
Ya niggas is jus hatin. Plain. Simple
Isn't it common knowledge already that Kanye uses samples? Just keep hatin on Kanye, he gone keep makin hits
Lmao...
This is old news...plus its not really that bad to sample...who said it was bad? Three Six Sample more than Kanye...but Im sayin...its not like hes jackin beats...hes paying for all of them anyways yo...kinda weird this makes its own blog like 3-4 years later tho
