After years of being asked the same question over and over again, I decided to explain in writing the reason as to why I don’t date rappers. What drove me to pen my thoughts down on the topic of dating within the industry, was a recent conversation I had with a very talented MC who felt necessary to remind me that he’s “Not just a rapper, but a human being too”. His name I will leave out for it’s not necessary for the purpose of this piece. What I do find important however, is to state my reasons so that maybe, just maybe, I am no more asked to explain my “judgmental” outlook on my dating preferences.
I don’t date rappers because of their inflated egos. The more popularity they receive, the more pride they end up carrying with them. It becomes weird, to the point where pride becomes an accessory almost, one that can paralyze a man from having a healthy relationship with those around him, especially females. Although the causal factor is mostly money, I’ve seen rappers who were once inseparable end friendships and business relationships because neither one would phone up the other to call it truce. Many behave the same way with women. It is very difficult to sustain a relationship when one person’s ego has been stroked left, right, up and down, and left again, so much that it becomes oh so easy to receive anything and everything without working for it. A relationship is not a tour with guaranteed groupies.
A relationship takes consistent effort and it takes patience. It’s not a studio session where one can show up for a day or two and then leave without coming back for sometimes weeks. Just like any other bond that requires nurturing, one between a man and a woman does also - maybe even more than the one between a mother and a child. For a mother will always know her son loves her. And without steady effort from her lover, a woman, will not. So without dragging this on longer than it needs to be, he’s a rapper and a wonderful human being. I just wouldn’t date him.

Aigght cool mina, first of all, all men in general have ego. Now ask yourself!! what gives these rappers this massive egos that you dislike so much? It's the cash and the fame like you put in the article. Now let's be fair here, if you don't date MC's then don't date any guy who has cash and is famous because he also will have the same ego problem. You should just change the name of your article to i don't date rich famous guys, not just rappers.

Each one of you is right also. As was mentioned above, men have egos, period; regardless of their profession. Money and fame - which equals women - increases that. I wrote specifically on rappers because that's who I come into contact with most. Maybe I should go square dancing, I may come across an ego-less cowboy...
But as someone mentioned above, there are of course exceptions. I do keep an open mind, and for what it's worth, I don't stereotype either. I just write what I see...

I think its ignorant to label a group of men based on their profession or craft. All men in general have ego's and there's nothing wrong with that. This girl definitely has issues and serious problems on identifying what a good guy is. If she does it based on his profession then she is going no where with this mindset as far as relationships go. All rappers don't live and think alike and I doubt she knows more than 7% of rappers that are out there personally. If she does then she is just a groupie. She thinks she knows every rapper only based on what she's experienced so far. Lady athletes are the same. Athletes, Actors, all that will wine and dine you and talk a good one and make you feel special and 4 days later have sex with the finest girl they meet without second thought. This is common in the entertainment world period. Most successful men in general have huge ego's. If you show me a highly successful man 99% of the time I'll show you one with a ego. I don't know the different between a big ego and a out of this world ego. This girl just has mental issues in my book. She needs to gather her thoughts and organize them correctly.
