Is it me or are rappers getting extremely boring these days? From the new group of "hipster" rappers to the vets in the game, thing's are getting just a tad too dry for me. So I decided to compile a quick list of 5 things rappers should stop doing that might improve the game slightly.
These are in no particular order, but after reading..post your top 5.
#5. Using AutoTune
Alright, after an entire year of 90% of rappers using AutoTune in their tracks, I'd say we've had enough. You are NOT a pioneer, you are NOT being original, and you do NOT sound all that great, so cut that shit out. Plus, have any of ya'll ever heard AutoTune being used live in concert? It sounds like straight ass.
#4. Using The Word "Swag"
Ok lets be honest here, if you're a guy and you willingly admit and publicaly express that another dude has "mad swag" you're pretty much saying you're gay. Saying another dude has mad swag is just the same as saying you'd let him take you to the movies and buy you gummy bears.
#3. Hating On Bloggers
Aside from Obama/Politically driven songs, hating on bloggers has been the IT thing for rappers to do this year. Why even bother rappers? You have to realize that in the digital age, Bloggers are pretty much record breakers--they are the new DJ Clues, Funk Flex, etc. So why hate on a blogger for talking about you? There's no such thing as bad publicity--unless a paparazzi catches you with a dead hooker in the trunk of your car..that..that's pretty bad.
#2. Songs shouting out Liquor and Clothing Brands
No one seemed to have learned from the whole Jay-Z/Cristal fiasco that went down a few years ago. Rappers, BIG BRANDS--REALLY big brands- - don't want your endorsement--so stop giving them free advertisement and creating trends with their brands. Loui & Gucci don't want T.I. pushing their product and Cristal doesn't want you popping their champagne.
#1. Pretending To Be Tough
Here's a tip for new rappers and old alike. Stop pretending to be tough--because someone is bound to test you on it. Before the age of Youtube and light speed information, rappers could get a pass on pretending to be tough because even if someone did in fact smack them up for talking that ish, most people would never know about it---today however, is a different day--thanks to the internets we get play by play on when a rapper gets their Transformer chain snatched then subsequently slapped across the face Ari Gold style by another rapper.

autotune on every song, i thought it was fitting when kanye used it on put on, or when wayne and tpain both use it on got money, its nice on a song here and there but when rappers use it on every song they make like kanye and wayne are right now, it takes the uniqueness of it away and just makes it monotonous and annoying.

cookie cutter albums- every god damn cd is the same thing, club song, gangster song, radio song, deep song, happy song, sad song, filler songs.. i like the idea of a concept album because even if it has all of these generic sounding songs, they all have a theme and are all relateable, giving them purpose and telling a story through music.
Name dropping- i cant stand it when people signed to young money shout out wayne on every single song, or when the game talks about dre or jay-z in everyone of his raps, i understand paying homage to the legends of the past and present but theres a thin line between respect and using their name to push your product.
early retirment- lupe, the game, rumors of kanye, i mean, it was bad enough when hov retired for a year and then came back, i dont know how i will cope with the fact that theres only one more lupe fiasco cd to come out, ever. hopefully he changes his mind and keeps making music but regardless, when its all said and done, he will be, hes not yet, but he will be top five doa.
album delays- god damn it, i want detox!! i want relapse!! i dont want to have to wait a decade between dre albums, and i HATE it how damn near every single cd gets pushed back at least once, if not more. tha carter 3 had an original intended release date of summer 06 and we got in summer 08, thats a long ass time to be delaying an album, tgfm(thank god for mixtapes).

Oil comapny CEO’s should be taxed, there is no reason not to tax them, when a few percentage points arent going to make any difference, maybe they have to wait a year to get the bentley and have to settle for a benz instead, but that money that they give up, makes a HUUUUUGE difference when you make 35000 dollars a year.

Um, that is the correct way to write/type something. Journalists and writers do it all the time. I don’t necessarily always write/type like that it depends on how busy I am. But there really isn’t much memorizing involved since that is the way you are taught in school depending on your English class.

1.) Stop all this emotional/feminine type behavior (50’s been the main contributor of this to the hip hop community)
2.) Give T-Pain and Roger Troutman(r.i.p) autotune back
3.) Stop dry snitching getting niggaz arrested on bullshit
4.) Stop waiting until they get on to be drug dealers or gang bangers, which is sending kids with no guidance into the wrong direction.
5.) No more dressing like women..I’m tired of seeing these niggaz with purses, scarfs, tight pants and shirts, lip and tongue rings, lip gloss..As a matter of fact i’ll be the first to say this but Lil Wayne is starting to remind me of a black “Boy George”..Nigga wear the same hats and crazy azz clothes..Think on it..

1. Lil Wayne. Lol you had a nice run, but you are the Phoenix Suns of rapping. Scoring a lot of points with mixtapes and features but you will never win a title. Lol you will never have a “classic” album. And perception is everything. My perception of you is your a bitch.
“Boy George”(shoutout to Gawgaboy) I feel you on that one. Lip-ring, lip-gloss, skinny jeans and kissing anotha dude in the mouth. No doubt he is a good rapper, but he tapped out a year ago. Now it’s oversaturated and “meh”(new word added to the dictionary yesterday, meaning “boring”. Originated from the Simpsons lol)
2.David Banner- I like the dude as a person, but man those two singles he put out, “Stuntin is a habit” with Chris “I’m not hitting Rhianna right” Brown and “Shawty Say” is some of the worst shit I’ve ever heard.
Lol if your going to use two supposed “hot lines” in a song as the hook for your singles, you better come correct. Instead you used the same beats on both of them and were better off just covering the two songs you used them from.
3.Gucci Mane- Lol not only is he the fugliest nigga alive and sets black people back to 1609 with his appearance alone, he literally says nothing on the track.

Dude is a fuckin idiot and he is not even close, not even in the same sentence as an Andy Warhol, so to call his new genre of music “Pop Art” is an insult to anyone in the print business(magazine, album cover artists, painters, etc.)

2) I also am not a fan of over-pronouncing the last word on every line. Main offender is Rick Ross.
3) Also I haven’t been to a live rap show in a while…any idea why? B/c rappers aren’t very good live. All most of them do (I’ll make a few exceptions here like Busta Rhymes & Ludacris) is yell into the microphone & have their crew finish the last word of their line. It’s boring & I didn’t come to see your crew, I came to see you.
4) Another thing is rappers over-using homophobic remarks. I’m not gay & I don’t really know anyone that is, but I’m sure they might not appreciate it. I know most of you won’t agree w/me here, but it gets tired to say someone’s gay (unless you kiss someone else like Lil Wayne). Come up with something better than that…
5) Come up with better song titles. I have about 4500 songs on my iPod & I hate trying to figure out which of the 10 ‘What It Is’ titles is the one by Busta Rhymes instead of Young Dro or Black Eyed Peas or Dire Straits.
I look at it like this – When a rapper/artist is on the rise and puts out mixtape tracks and comes off hungry…THAT shit is for US, the Hip Hop Heads. That’s what he/she wants us to respect him for. But, once he puts out an album (9/10 times) it’s not for us anymore…it’s for your 13 year old sister to ask mommy for the cd as a christmas present. Does that make sense?
Now, obviously, there’s exceptions to the rule…being rappers who have been out and established a name/rep for themselves already when hip hop was HIP HOP and originality was expected…but, that day is long gone my friends. Find me ONE rapper who comes hard and actually gets to release an album that’s original and true to themselves. They can’t, they’re shelved until they conform. And it comes down to whether or not they are willing to bite the bullet and succomb to the industries “cookie cutter” (i.e. did anyone notice last night on 106th and Park how uncomfortable Jadakiss was introducing his sell out video for his new single with Ne-Yo??…he didn’t want to do that…he didn’t wanna wear them tight pants and gatsby cap…tha’ts not JADA!but, he’s gotta pay bills too!)
So, my rambling comes down to this…don’t blame the rappers/artists…blame the industry and every motherfucker who bought ________’s album!!! (you can fill in the blank with the likes of Soulja Boy, Jibbs, Yung Berg, etc. to your own preference!)…
