Soulja Boy Premieres Cartoon
The new online animated series, Soulja Boy Tell’em, featuring none other then Soulja Boy himself, will be premiering today and can be seen on SouljaBoyTellEm.com.
The cartoon, which is a collaboration between SB and Interscope Records, focuses on Soulja Boy enjoying his new found love for Hip Hop with his friends, but it comes at the expense of missing high school. Alfonso Ribiero, better known as "Carlton" from the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air series, will be portrying a real-life character as he attempts to keep the kids straight.
The marketing director of Interscope Records, Brian Washington, says the series is only something that SB could have done because of his appeal to the public. He said, “Soulja Boy is one of the most charismatic artists of his generation. His ability to speak to his fans and, just as importantly, the way in which he does so, makes him such an innovator in how music and entertainment is consumed and discovered today.”
Talib Kweli's Label Gets Dropped
Warner Music Group has let go of Talib Kweli's 'Blacksmith' record label. Kweli and partner Corey Smyth launched Blacksmith Music in 2006 and was made up of artists such as Jean Grae, Strong Arm Steady and singer Anjulie. A spokesman for Warner said the company does still have the option to release they're material but relinquished its exclusive distribution rights to the label.
Kweli himself is still signed to Warner Bros. as a solo artist and is currently wrapping his upcoming duet album with producer Hi-Tek, "Reflection Eternal: Train of Thought II." which is due out later this year.
