Slum Village Member Baatin Is Dead
by on August 2nd, 2009
In a summer that has seemed to take away the lives of so many celebrities; the Hip Hop community has lost another great artist. Titus Baatin Glover of the Detroit based group Slum Village body was found in the wee hours of the morning on the 1400 block of Detroit Anglin street.
For those who did not know him, Baatin was one of the founding members of the group Slum Village, along with T3 and deceased producer J Dilla. Together they put out two albums before J Dilla left to pursue a solo career and Baatin departed after he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Baatin's death not only shocked his close friends and family, but the hip hop community as well. Brooklyn born rapper Talib Kweli along with others have begun to pay their respects via Twitter, with Talib saying
"I’m at a loss right now. Hi-Tek was set to dj for Slum Village tonight. RIP Baatin. More influential than you can imagine. Slum Village forever.”
Since Baatin and Dilla departed from the group, it has went through hard times. First the death of member J Dilla, and then close friend Proof. T3 who is the last original member of the group was heart broken over Baatin's death, speaking about what they had planned before this unfortunante incident. T3 discussed how Baatin had planned to reunite with Slum Village for another album, and how things looked like they were finally about to happen.
"“The whole thing is I felt like the fans wanted Baatin to come back. And I felt like I really didn’t want to do another album without Baatin. I wanted his energy, I found him and he was ready. He seemed like he had his stuff together. So that’s how the whole wheel started spinning for this new Slum Village album because basically, for the last couple of years, we dropped an album but we were going through a lot of depression. Dilla passed and then Proof passed. I really didn’t feel like doing no music. I wasn’t inspired. I was really just going through my thing.”
A cause of death has not been announced, but it was confirmed that Baatin was 35 years old at the time of his death, after being identified by a family member.
