Roc, you’re right, an artist can absolutely name his/her piece whatever they’d like. However, using the recent historical precedent,which for Nas was the album “Hip Hop is Dead,” the content certainly didn’t back up hype/controversy around the title. I know that may just be my opinion, I challenge you to find three people that would even put that album in the top 50 hip hop albums. You would think an album prophesizes the “death” of a music genre would have joints that hip hop fans would immediatedly recall. You and I know that the only thing memorable about that joint was the title. My objection to the Nigger album title is that Nas has gotten away from making quality albums and has now falle into the gimmickry of the rest of the industry to stay afloat. If Nas is that out of ideas creatively, then fucking retire already and let a youngster step in. Being an artist does not give you license to keep feeding your fans bullshit.

I think part of the reason why people are critisizing him so much is because people are scared of change, or controversy. Everyone wants to play it safe and keep their mouths shut, but Nas is one of the few people who are not afraid to speak their mind, especially on somethin this big.
