Nas’ music is not necessarily the direction of the mainstream… I’m elated that he was still able to go Gold and get certified SOMETHING, in this snap and supermannin’ age of mainstream hip-hop.

When an artist who doesn’t conform to the tendencies of the industry is STILL able to certify, it means they have some type of clout and staying power within the industry. It’s not going to be a hit or two, and that’s it. It also means they have a loyal fanbase and, in Nas’ case, shows CONSISTENCY.

Usher’s, who went MEGALOGOOFY Platinum his last time out (and we all LOVE OR HATE that album, lol, from hearing it blast out of every dorm room and female car for about a year straight), and he’s been out for FOUR months and isn’t Gold yet! So give Nas A LITTLE CREDIT! I copped 2 for my dude!!

Sales don’t define how good an album is, FUCK NUMBERS, Untitled is one of the best albums of the year. The entire concept was ill. Only Nas could do that album, and it is what was needed, music to make us think. No one else is capable of doing that and getting the message out to 500,000 people. Others may sell, but the quality isn’t the same. Props to Jeezy and Lupe for creating concepts that also had people open up there eyes to the world around them. Since most “concious” artists aren’t able to get these important messages out to the public, it’s good to see others step up and handle business. I’d like to see Jay, Kanye, Luda and Andre follow suit.

As for Em being released this year, that would be cool. Haven’t heard from the guy in awhile. He is hip hop’s “court jester,” someone with the ability to make you laugh with his crazy, over the top lyrics and videos. With the country being so tense do to thr recession and the election, it would be good to have Em drop some shit to get your mind off the bullshit, and get people laughing again. Hope the four year hiatus didn’t affect him too much, alot of shit has changed since 2004. Of course he will sell millions, but will the quality of music suffer? Will his new ish sound dated, fit in with what’s going on now, or will Dre bless him with production that will revolutionize? We will have to wait and see…

Best Rapper Alive and the best news I heard in Hip Hop in awhile. I hope he addresses that lil bitch wayne too because his ego and hype are fuckin annoyng and ridiculous. My prediction is that King Mathers will be the best Album of the last 5 years.

Marshall Mathers LP did 1.74 million first week. I undershot with my prediction. I would NOT be surprised to see him break 3 million.

Sales don’t mean anything besides people with money are buying your shit. They don’t reflect what’s poppin’ in the streets(the hood anyway, the only streets that matter). I guess Souljah Boy and Vanilla Ice(both did huge numbers) are relevant to you. The only times I remember different were when Get rich or die trying and , yes The Carter 3 dropped. When MMLP was hot the hood was bangin Life Story(Black Rob) and H.N.I.C.(Prodigy) which did not do numbers. The best hip hop album that year was Reflection Eternal(Kweli and Hi-Tek). None of those albums were huge number wise because they had no crossover appeal but they were just as good if not better than MMLP, from a music standpoint.

Eminem is my favorite rapper/emcee aswell but the best lyricist of all-time is CANIBUS BY FAR.

You can’t rush a great artist’s product. He has not dropped an album in four years, but that doesn’t mean that Interscope can just push him into making an album. Interscope clearly has no power to stop 50 Cent from pushing other artists back, but now they expect us to believe that they can tell their biggest artist in the last ten years will drop an album in the next three months? COME ON! Eminem is Eminem, not Dr. Dre, who has taken nine years to make an album, douchebag. So Em has three months to drop a single and drop an album. How can they expect an artist of his caliber to pick the right songs for the album and to pick the right single? An artist must have time to pick the right stuff to make a great album. You see why Nastradamus was garbage? Because Nas released two albums in the same year and the first one (I Am) was a lot better. Jay-Z dropped In My Lifetime Vol. 1 during the worst year of his life because Biggie passed and that was mediocre at best. DMX dropped …And Then There Was X and that was not at best as his first two. I can name more examples! Busta Rhymes was a good artist until he was pressured by Dr. Dre to make gangsta music, but he is not a gangsta and his squad is questioning him. Not every artist can drop an album every year (Jay-Z). Rakim is one of the greatest rappers of all-time and he only has two solo albums. So don’t try to face me and claim that I think an artist needs ten years to make an album!

Album for album, Cube has got Em. Concious wise, Cube has got Em(socially aware). Cube has made bonafide classic albums, recognized in any hip hop circle, and by any mag or website you can find. Em’s closest effort MMLP, falls short of Death Certificate, Kill at Will, and Amerrikkka’s most wanted and you will be hard pressed to find many cats tell you different unless they 1)love em, or 2)hate Cube or are too young to know any better. This is coming from someone who is from the East Coast, someone who doesen’t have an absolute favorite artist. I just see it for what it is. Now Eminem is one of my favorite rappers of all-time, but Ice Cube is better. He has better subject matter, a longer career, harder lyrics, and this is a toss-up, but more constant production.

I don’t know about greatest of all time but to me, he’s top 5 dead or alive. That’s just my opinion.
