Rakim Sets Out To Build The Hip Hop Kingdom With 'The Seventh Seal'

by Jokesta on July 15th, 2009

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/273/333/25003/asset.jpegHip Hop legend and G.O.A.T. contender Rakim is gearing up for the release of his long anticipated third solo album, The Seventh Seal.

Rakim who signed with Aftermath Records in 2001 and later parted ways with the label, never got a chance to release the LP which he says is fueled by consciousness and spirituality.

"The seals are from the Bible- Revelations and the coming of the Apocalypse. But Islam, Judaism, Christianity: all have a version of the same events.  The Lion of Judah breaks the seven seals one by one, each imparting knowledge and inflicting catastrophe, ending with seven trumpets announcing the end of Times.

After the Apocalypse, God rises from the ashes to recreate the Kingdom, taking only the greatest elements from the past with them," Rakim tells Billboard.

"When you look at Hip-Hop, I want to do that: to spit fire and take our best from the ashes to build our kingdom; to recognize all the regional styles, conscious lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other.

Lose the garbage and rebuild our scene. I've always tried to insert consciousness and spirituality in my records, interpreting the writings of all cultures and religions and how they apply to life in modern times."

Rakim also added that none of the material in the new LP is from his days with Dr. Dre. Though he refused to name any names, Rakim says fans will recognize many of the featured guests and producers.

According to Billboard, the album, which is slated to hit stores this fall, is being released on Rakim's Ra Records label in a joint venture with Tuscan Villa Entertainment and distributed by Universal.

sounds cool.. ill prolly check this shit out.. cant believe some people below are actually comparing a rapper to god.. im not even religious or takin offense— but it seems like your totally serious.. dooflinkys just fuckin around.. rakim is just a regular person.. just cuz he pretends he knows everything or hes “spirtiual” doesnt put him above anyone else.. yah hes a legend in the rap game.. but lets be serious that was 20 years ago— in reality more than half the poeple on here dont listen to his shit at all.. and besides 1 song prolly never even heard anything by him.. so im pretty comfortable sayin he aint the best ever..

i like what rakim is trying to do. i wanna see this album do good when it drops. hip hop is on its way back and hopefully this 4th quarter in 09 will give some real music that sets up the return of hip hop in the new decade.

dudes like rakim and jay-z can go out in style with classics and these being their last albums cuz they are like 40 lol. need to set the table and pass the torch to the next in line like papoose and saigon.

Rakim spits that real shit, it’s just too bad all these bubble gum artists have a huge fan base and get called the GOAT smh.. People need to learn up on Hip-Hop as a whole and recognize who the cornerstones of the art form are.. Rakim is apart of the Hip-Hop Elite, fuck what you heard. We need real lyricism back; and with Slaughterhouse pushing the envelope, and Rakim in works with this album, we, as fans need to support that shit and finally put a end to this auto tune infused pop era of Hip-Hop that we are living in…

Like I said previously, they need to ban your dumb ass again. If you would rather listen to souljah girl than Rakim that’s your right. But lets not pretend souljah is anywhere near the level of the God MC.
