Lupe Says Hip-Hop Was A Factor in Derrion Albert Murder

by MrWhiteFolks on November 5th, 2009

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/1825/1891/29028/asset.jpegSince the recent homicide of Chicago High School honor roll student Derrion Albert, many rappers from Nas, Twista, T.I. and the latest is Chicago emcee Lupe Fiasco to weigh in and say that action needs to be taken as the aggression  in the African-American community has increased.

While out in Chicago for a recent show, Chicago's 107.5 WGCI caught up with Lupe as he spoke out on the murder of the young teenager,  "Hip-Hop should take some of the blame" said Lupe, and he also went on to say;

“Hip-Hop has to take some fault for that. Just in the fact that the amount of violence and the amount of negativity that's in Hip-Hop and the music, it attributes to so much that goes on, negatively, in the hood.”

As Lupe continued, he added that another  issue is the fact that positivity is not promoted through media outlets such as the radio, as he said;

“It lacks entertainment value. It lacks a certain kind of hype around it. A certain “coolness” about it. So it doesn't fit on the radio.”

Lu also believes, as a positive artist that he has been able to rap outside of promoting drugs, sex, and violence, but he does believe he should be doing more.

“It's by example. I haven't been exercising my celebrity, in a sense, since I've been so laid back. I kinda feel like it's my fault because I should have been out there doing more. I have a message and a certain celebrity and certain popularity and I should be exercising that. Not saying that Rhyme ain't doing it. Not saying that Twista ain't doing it. It's just the more, the better.”

In other Lupe news, he will be dropping a new mixtape in the coming weeks, to try and secure a spot on the next MTV Hottest MC List.

Even rappers are blaming the worlds issues on hip-hop now? How about we take the blame ourselves sometimes instead of always pointing the finger, bitches.

i feel what you sayin king, but at the same time there are a bunch of knuckle heads who base they life off what they see and hear, they relate to rap music so they act it out and they ain’t got nobody tellin them that this ain’t the right way to act. if we did have a better outlet of positive music, jus like what it does with fashion (skinny jeans) it can have that same effect on the attitudes of young people

to laxalbum08….Lupe right dude…

you have no idea how easily influenced these 12-18 yr old black kids are in America…

These youngins hear plies talkin about GOONS and CHOPPERS all fuckin day and they really BELIEVE that shit…They BELIEVE that plies is out here shootin up peoples houses and shit like that…

They see Plies on TV talkin about Murkin season, and they say to themselves…“Hey Plies is cool right? Lets do what Plies does…”

These kids don’t have the intelligence to know that Plies is an ENTERTAINER..and the shit he says is like a movie…NOT REAL
They don’t know that these niggas are not out here killing up everybody because if they were they WOULD BE IN JAIL

Kids are dumb………Listen to songs like Murkin season, Bushes, and Me and My Goons, and tell me what a 16 yr old kid would think when they hear that?

Shiiiit, some of them songs be making ME wanna go and fuckin ROB somebody and I’m not even the type to be influenced by tv and shit like that…

Hell, I’m 23!!!! That music shit is POWERFUL kid!

laxal, you’re a dumb shit…

we have all these dumb asses going around trying to be ‘cool’ and chasing acceptance so they are following whatever they are being told…all these faggot ‘rappers’ are bragging about drugs and guns and treating women like property and it spreads like wildfire amongst ignorant inner-city youth who are just looking for a way to escape the dismal reality of the non-stop struggling to where they may be no longer fucked with or screwed over…

thank you skeazaleo! thank you for thinking for yourself! keep posting man, we need some more enlightenment in the hip hop community…too many misled misinformed dumbasses spreading destructive messages

look at all the black violence and tell me these kids are not big into hip hop…i’m not saying people should be censored (that is the last thing we need), but i’m saying that these pieces of shit who are making millions by exploiting the struggles of people actually living that shit just spread the worst ideas…

and all the rappers who brag about selling drugs, and having guns, and most importantly, HAVING MORE THAN YOU, are more popular than ever…while all they are doing is perpetuating the self-obsessed culture of the rat race

peace brothas!

What do mean Twista isnt doing shit? Twista went to the school and talked the kids at Fenger high school in the city to show some positive infulence.

Twis is always doing something for the community, he recently dropped the S.O.S (“Save our Students”) mixtape and passed them out through-out the Chicago public schools.

Twis is always doing something positive

^^ i was gonna trash you at first but you have a point.
Making gangsta ass music about popping off and being a ryder then turning around and saying save our kids is sorta like how Mobsters would kill people and sell drugs then turnaround and hand out turkeys in the community.lol
It’s doing something good to not look as bad.
but both You and Mr. Whitefolks have good points.

Hip hop is just as capable of being the cure to this illness as it has been capable of contributing to inner city violence. When the system (school, fathers, authority figures) cares nothing about you, a rapper who’s managed to make millions coming from nothing is probably a credible figure to a kid at Fenger High. As a result, I feel Lupe is spot on in his assesment that Hip Hop does in fact have something to do with all of this. We are not talking about adults who are supposed to be able to use their discretion for their decision making. Rather, these are children who are a product of their environment. The images they see, or in this case, listen to do affect them. I am not saying one causes the other, but there probably is a correlation. No one thing will explain what happened, but all possible symptoms much be addressed.

Lupe – Best in the game right now

Fahrenheit 1/15 – mixtape of the decade, cant wait on this new one.

Nigga, there is no one better lyrically than him. Anybody you name isn’t fucking with him.
If you knew anything about poetry(or events going on in the world) you would know that no other rapper even incorporates as many poetic styles as he does or even the kind of lyrical acrobatics or social commentary. And he keeps it intellegent! Get real son. The only other rapper that fuses all that together is Nas.
So who are you gonna say? Weezy? Lloyd Banks? Game? Nigga don’t make me laugh.Anyone you name isn’t nearly as smart or creative.

Hip hop is all about Negativity .. that’s a fact

if you compare some of nas’ so called positive records like ( i can ) with something really hardcore and violent like ( made u look ) you ’ll find out that the Negative record is more respected in hip hop

same with jay z ( example : Empire stat of mind << Lucifer )

eminem ( Just the two of us <<<<<<<< If i had )

x zibit ( thanq you <<< the fondation )

Immortal Technique ( leaving the past << Ben ladn )

Biggie ( Juicy <<<<<<<< Dead Wrong )

Big L ( His whole catalog <<<< Devil’s Son )

Sp ( My life <<<<<<<<< kill that faggot )

Dre ( nnothing but a g thing < The Day th niggaz took over )

Big pun (not a player <<<< leather face

So stop complaning about the violence of hip hop cuz Hip hop = violence

and violence is an entertaining thing , if u co sign Lupe than why the fuck r u saying that fat joe needs to make some of his old staff ?!! maybe cuz his old material was Raw as fuck , you see my point ? you love violence in hip hop and u criticize it at the same moment !

I mean I can see where he is coming from, but at the same time YOU have to be ACCOUNTABLE for YOUR actions. If you are physically being forced to do something, that’s a different story. But if you go out and perform a criminal act out of your own freewill, then why shouldn’t be blame everybody but you? That just doesn’t add up.

Lupe said “ the fact that the amount of violence and the amount of negativity that’s in Hip-Hop and the music, it attributes to so much that goes on, negatively, in the hood.”

But me I dont think its hip-hop fault I think its the person
why?
Because they dont go out and try the stunts after they’ve watch an action movie

but these lil niggas RELATE to Plies…They RELATE to 50……..

They don’t want to be action heros…

Not to forget that they are great writers and they will bring out any topic that will bring them more money

They dont have to change We got to change our perception of what GOOD MUSIC is
because believe it or not We are the one who made them Who they are right now

Wow, now I know why I don’t listen to fruity loops. THIS NIGGA A BITCH!

How the fuck he gonna blame a whole music genre(being an artist in that genre) on some shit which happened because of some dumb ass niggas. And the retarded parents who raised them.

If these niggas was gettin their asses whooped when they was growin up they woulda known the time and realized that most of the faggot shit they listen to is fake. SHIT! It ain’t even only that, niggas prolly don’t even learn a shit in school.

If you eat a burger with rotten lettuce you wouldn’t blame the lettuce, you’d blame the fuck who made it for you and DAYUM KNOW THAT LETTUCE WAS ROTTEN!? FEEL ME?!

WHOOP THESE LIL NIGGAS ASSES.

Or at least thats what I plan to do to my children and when they wanna listen to some music I’m not gonna let them listen to shit from the radio, they’ll be listenin to the same g-shit as me.

lupe is right about rap music , hes just saying that rappers make doing these kind of things “the cool thing to do” . music effects culture, rappers wither they accept it or not, are role models . they influence kids . Now Im not saying every kid goes out and commits crimes because they see rappers doing it . A child wants to be accepted by his peers and he is influenced by what he sees in the media he trys and acts like the people on the screen and in the music .
The small community I live in proves this. it is a lower middle to upper class town there is no gangs here and no gang violence, most of the people of this city (concord NH) are upper middle class they have no reason to join a gang . but we have these wealthy white kids with caring parents that claim to be bloods and crips and do crimes just for the sake of doing crime .
