Ludacris Speaks On The Concept Behind "Battle Of The Sexes"; "How Low" Goes Platinum

by MrWhiteFolks on February 27th, 2010

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/433/511/32582/asset.jpegWith Atl hip hop superstar Ludacris' forthcoming album Battle Of The Sexes just around the corner he recently spoke to MTV about the concept of the album.

"It's such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice, so we wanted to hear more of what the hell they had to say. With that being said, I went out and got women from the past, the present and the future — everyone from Lil Kim, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj. I got records where I'm talking about women ... and where women are talking back to me."

The project was originally set to be a collaboration album with Shawnna who left Luda's DTP to sign with T-Pains Nappy Boy brand, he had to go a different route on the album. Luda made calls to females in the industry and he said they loved the idea of the concept and were willing to jump right on the project.

"They were loving it. It was even better when we shot the 'My Chick Bad' video and the remix. I had all those women on the same set. It was history. They love the fact that someone is trying to get the female voice out there more."

Nicki Minaj, Eve, Lil Kim, Trina, Monica and Crime Mob's Diamond are the females set to feature; Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Flo Rida and Gucci Mane are also featured on the album.

Battles Of The Sexes is set for a March 9th release date.

In other Ludacris news, Luda received another platinum plaque, as his lead single for the album, How Low has reached the 1 Million sales mark. You can watch his acceptance speech here.

I like the concept, but I don’t think it will be a classic Luda album at all.

He should explain the concept of putting out a classic album that denounced the faggot shit going on in rap, to putting out the faggot shit that he denounced in that album. Really dissapointed in Luda with this, he finally got his recognition as one of the top lyricist in the game, and then puts out this shit, I just don’t get it…

niggas blow this CLASSIC shit waaaaaayyyyy outta proportion on this site…lol

ANYTIME an album is about to drop thats all niggas talk about….Is it a classic? Was it a classic? Will is be a classic?

Damn can’t you just let niggas make music! lol Let these niggas DO THEM!

Besides, most CLASSIC albums take TIME to reach that point….Most REAL CLASSICS aren’t given that title until years after they have dropped….Give these dudes a break..lol

OK, kingshit, get off your high horse. Lemme restate. Not only do I think this will not be a “classic”, but I also don’t think this will be a “solid” Luda album.

I love Luda, but probably won’t be buying this because I don’t care for all the features.

^ i disagree. i think luda takes stupid subjects and bores me with them. this dude used to be nice. what the fuck happened. im just calling then like i see them. and a dude put a blog on here like a week ago saying everything luda has put out recently is bullshit, and i agree completely. he puts out songs for the girls (a some guys) to dance to and shit, and thats cool but at least throw the streets a song here and there too. i mean damn, this dude it putting out an entire album for the ladies. and if you think “battle of the sexes” is going to be half for guys half for girls, your out of your mind. its gonna be all chick songs.

Why cant dude make a CD for the ladies? Women are put out if hip hop. If you make a song for the ladies its not cool. A lot of people on here be like its cool but its just a song for the ladies so its whatever. And thats cool thats what you like. Luda is trying to help put women back in hip hop. Besides Nicki manaj what other female is making records people are listening to right now. Im probally gunna get mad hate for this but whatever. Im glad he got EVE tho she needs to get back in the game.

lmaooo i cant believe you guys actually thought luda was a serious rapper lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooo this guy dont care about music or gives two shits about the game he will drop anything to make a buck or two along the way. Luda is commerical as commercial gets people. dont get me wrong he can make a good album like Release Therapy but he dont care about music.
Now he says he is giving voice to female rappers? lol the female rappers are degrading females! lol Man luda you takn Ls now

Honestly, and this question has no implications, who in the rap game does empower women? You have women rapping that don’t even empower women. Example = Lil’ Kim.

the only women i can think of is Latifah and Lauryn Hill and maybe EVE…Minaj, Kim, and Trina songs make them out to be “hoes” and nothing more

He’s not saying he’s trying to empower women though, all he’s saying the female needs a place in hip hop.

""It’s such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice"

“I got records where I’m talking about women … and where women are talking back to me.”

@ 50 Kings

Two of three women you named are well documented lesbians, they were tryna get brownie points with other women to do what the men do in hip-hop… See some snatch!

publicenemy6 months ago
@wf how do you expect the women to start getting respect when all theyre makin is music that exploits them. i dont think the girl that gets the lowest is gettin muxh respect if you ask me. or the woman thats the “baddest”

and what the fuck is this? if you want women to have a voice why would you choose acts like lil kim and trina? all they talk about is sex

The degredation of women has really gone too far in the industry. Although you may say most artists degrade women , even the female artists, look at people like Lupe Fiasco

Honestly, He doesn’t deserve a Platinum plaque for that song. I think Luda fell off bad.. I used to love his work. Red light District, Release Therapy.. Amazing albums. Theater of the Mind was mediocre, and by the looks of it, this one won’t be all that either.

For real this is why Ludacris is a great rapper. Like there’s a lot of people (maybe not a majority, but still a lot) on the east coast (and by that i mean NY/NJ/PA) that hate on Luda cause it’s part of their tendency to hate rappers from the south. but the dude stays heavy rhyming, has an unfuckwithable flow, is not afraid to discuss personal demons on a track, and now comes up with a very promising idea for a concept album.

Ludacris is underrated north of the Mason-Dixon Line, at least from where i sit.

lol Luda has a point but come on homie, the presence of females in the hip hop industry have been less and less ever since Lil Kim, Foxy, and Remi Ma went to jail. Eve couldve been that chick but she fell off hard when she tried to do the acting thing and that didnt work out. Now that Nicki Minaj is the new “female mc”, thats gonna be what labels want in terms of signing any new female rapping talent.

And Luda needa stop kidding himself about this being a classic because Luda’s really never dropped a classic. Hes consistently great and that hasnt always worked out for him in terms of being mentioned with elite rappers. Dont get me wrong, Luda is dangerous and he knows how to balance himself on albums but im rooting for him to drop something classic. Word of Mouf couldve been that classic or Chicken & Beer but it just fell short. Its not cause he’s too commercial its cause he’s always made hits consistently and people really dont buzz off his albums like the way people do a Nas Jay Em and etc. Im rooting for Luda though, he’s due for a classic
