Lets Try This Again
by on October 2nd, 2009
I've been a dedicated writer for Defsounds.com for some time now, along with doing articles and editorials, I have also been very involved with doing a majority of album reviews for this website. In all of my reviews I have tried to be fair, and I have always tried to list reasons for certain decisions. Sometimes you guys agree, on other occasions you disagree. But now that some time has passed I would like to take a look at a couple of albums that I may or may not have reviewed and change the rating.
50 Cent: Curtis
Original Rating- 8

I originally gave this album a 8 out of a possible ten. I justified this by stating that 50 stuck to the topics, he painted a picture and brought you back to his Southside day's. But in hindsight he did the same exact thing on Get Rich Or Die Trying, and then again on the Massacare, and then over and over again in his mixtapes. Everytime 50 drops a good song, fans tend to say that he's getting back to his gritty style, well to be honest he didnt stop being gritty, so he's not doing anything new. It's still a good album, just not an 8. So seven will be my new rating. New Rating- 7
Fabolous: From Nothing To Something
Original Rating-6

When I look back at this rating, I realize that I was way too hard on Fabolous. I mean yes it is true that he talks about the same thing on every album, and yes it is true that he had a feature on almost every song, but at the end of the day, he had great songs on the album; he made good music. I also rated very hard towards his lyrics. He didnt fall off lyrically, he just hasn't improved or shown much improvement on that album, but even that is not enough to lose points on. From Nothing To Something was a good album. New Rating-7.5
Lupe Fiasco: The Cool
Original Rating-8

I was not the one who wrote the review for this album, but I never agreed with the rating. The Cool was by far the best album that came out that year. Lupe had an amazing concept which he stuck to (unlike Fabolous), made great commercial songs, and still had depth and content in this album. The Cool was an intelligent album, which gave the street stories from a different perspective, while not being so heavy that it could be considered depressing music. This album was definitely one that will be remembered for years. New Rating-9
Kanye West: 808's & Heart Breaks
Original Rating-8

I am very well aware of how many Kanye fans we have on this site, so I will not be surprised when I receive a lot of hate for this rating change, but honestly 808's and Heartbreaks after some time a way is a disapointment. In baseball, if a player is caught using steroids or performance enhancers they are usually seen as cheaters. 808's and Heartbreaks was an album that Kanye really had no creativity in making. Almost 50% of the songs on the album were songs that had already come out years ago, most of which he didnt even bother writing new lyrics for; almost everything was the same as the original with the addition of some autotune and maybe an enhancement of the production. The album was in my eyes a karaoke album with autotune. If you dont believe me just check this out. Sorry Kanye. New Rating-4.5

Original Rating-8
50 Cent: Curtis
Original Rating- 8
so how much did they pay you ?!!
just curious …
Fab Cd i could care less for but i wud rate it a 7
The Cool damn this was a great abulm but i wud leave it at 8 tho its nice but 9 naw too high The Black Album (this is just my fav. example of a great an album is i always talk bout it lol) is a 9, The Cool was a great Album but 9s is too high for that
808s and heartbreaks well dont hate me now i like this Alubm you rated it first as 8 which ahaha yea too high 4.5 What??? a 4.5 wud be Shaq Diesel hahah Heartbreak yea autotune but the song lyrics were really good Heartless, Amazing ft. Jeezy, Love Lockdown and See You In My Nightmares ft. Weezy; these songs is crack… Autotune sucks dick but if he could sing these songs n not have autotune we might look at this Abulm diff. one of the most creative and Daring things to do with this Cd that Kayne did to put a whole Cd on Auto, but the crazy thing is he used the auto the best, the thing with this tune; Wayne makes it sound horrible you have to work with the Tune, Drake uses it pretty good but West did it the best, i love the R&b flow to this Cd i wud rate it a 7
But gblocker right, OPINIONS
change that shit to 10. if an album thats come out in the last 5 years that deserves to be 10 its that 1
Nothing else I could really say.
The Cool is arguably a classic.
808s was one of the worst albums in recent history.
From nothing to something was a good album.
Curtis….
Good job man
PEACE!
