The BET Hip Hop awards was given a big surprise this year when, Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy stole the show by bringing out Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z for the show's opener.

The two performed "As Real As It Gets" throwing the fans into a frenzy.

Despite such an amazing opener, the performance from the two artist was just the tip of the iceberg.

In what was not too surprising of a decision, Jay-Z neat out a bevy of well deserving rappers to win the MVP of the year award. He dedicated the win to Mr. Magic, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube, finishing off his acceptance speech by saying "Brooklyn we did it again."

On a more sentimental side, the awards paid homage to some of Hip Hops fallen soldiers including, DJ AM, MR. Magic and others.

DJ AM won DJ of the year and Busta Rhymes accepted the award for him. Along with accepting the award for AM, Rhymes also saluted his personal DJ (DJ Roc Raida) who recently passed, as well as MR. Magic.

In what had to be considered a trip to the old school, Rap group Kid n Play came out and and challenged the New Boyz, saying that they were rap's first two-man team, this lead into Kid N Play performing their signature dance and song.

But the best part of the night as it usually is in the awards was the cypher, which featured artist such as Budden, Minaj, Eminem, Black Thought, Wale, and KRS-One, although all of the artist faired pretty well, Eminem once again stole the show with a lyrical barrage that touched several topics including Barack Obama, sex, and his upcoming album.

The show ended with the Goodie Mob performing for the first time in almost ten years.

The 2009 BET Hip Hop awards will be hosted by Mike Epps and air on Tuesday, October 27th at 8/7 central.
