Jay-Z Speaks On 'We Are The World' Remake & New Album

by The Chosen Few on February 16th, 2010

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/96/174/32245/asset.jpegJay-Z, who was previously reported to have been involved in the 'We Are The World' remake, was noticibly absent when the video aired last Friday. Hov explained why he wasn't involved at the annual '2 Kings' dinner over last Saturday over All-Star Weekend.

"I have a interesting take on that," explained Jigga. "I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: 'We Are the World,' I love it, and I understand the point and think it's great. But I think 'We Are the World' is like [Michael Jackson's] 'Thriller' to me. I don't ever wanna see it touched. I'm a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that's going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but 'We are the World' is [musically] untouchable like 'Thriller' is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable."

Hov also believes a new song should have been written instead of re-doing the original.

"I would have loved that idea better," he said. "As everyone knows, I have tremendous respect for Quincy Jones. Of course, I think he's genius, as everyone else does. [But] I think it's time for us to make a new [song]. I tried to do that with 'Stranded' [the song Jay, Rihanna and U2's Bono and the Edge premiered at the 'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon]. I didn't try to make 'We Are the World,' but I tried to make our take on how we felt."

Jay-Z has also told MTV that he's currently working on his next studio effort.

“I got one crazy record,” he said. “To be honest with you, it’s crazy. I got one and we’ll build from there. Whether it comes out this year or next year, it depends on the music and how it’s coming out. I don’t really have any dates.”

Despite criticism after being premiered last friday at the start of the Winter Olympics the remake has claimed the top spot on iTunes and has over 6.2 million views on YouTube.

The ‘We Are The World’ remake was fucking horrible…it’s amazing to me how artists are given an immaculate song, and they turn around and shit on it. Auto-Tune, seriously? What the fuck has this world come?

yes i was disappointed… after hearin all tha ppl that were involved in it i thought it was gonna b phenomonal but it was a catastrophe… autotune wasnt necessary… n between wyclef n ll cool j i dunno who fucked up tha most… i agree that a new song should’ve been constructed

yea i think it would have been better just to make a new song cause the remake was kind of corny with the auto tune. plus if you made a new song it would be original and people wouldn;t have to compare it to the original one that you fucked up

i knew this We Are The World remake was gonna be a fail music wise. i think its sad they had to go and ruin a beautiful thing and Hov was right. they should have made a new song cuz the original was untouchable. the autotune was lame, Wyclef went over the top with all his yelling, the rap part was so corny i couldnt help closing my eyes and looking away for like half of it, and miley cyrus removed any doubts in my head that she cant sing.

But yea that We Are The World song was RETARDED lmao i almost damn neare cried laughing when i heard the rap segment and whenever wycelf sang lol he sounded like a pig getting raped lol

Jay told the truth. They fucked that song up. Still it went for a good cause, and thats the bottom line.
as far as his next album..cant wait! It’ll be the same routine…jay comes out, niggas hate, he sells units and gets more money, while niggas stay online showing their envy.
LAst note-TWOHEADSONEAGLE-dude, i dont know if ur trying to be dooflinky or somthin’, but ur wack as fuk. If ur gonna be a sambo ass bufoon, at least be entertaining about it.

its from “these are our heroes” off street disciple. he’s saying that a bunch of heads will jump on a save the world track to be the ‘conscious mc’. kinda like a pr move. i dont mean to sound cynical, but im sure some, not all, of the artists’ motivations may have been just that, pr.
