Jay Z Closes Live Nation Deal, Sets Up Educational Fund For Sean Bell's Children
by on May 5th, 2008
According to reports, on Wednesday May 1st, Jay Z and Live Nation closed their multi-million dollar deal which will have Live Nation financing future start-up ventures by the jigga man.
Jay Z will be getting 775,434 Live Nation shares, plus an option on an additional 500,000 with the exercise price of $13.73. The shares go to Marcy Media, the company affiliated with Jay-Z, in connection with the formation of Roc Nation LLC, a joint entertainment venture between Live Nation and the artist.
Live Nation will reportedly contribute $5 million each year in overhead for five years and offer $25 million to finance Jay-Z's external acquisitions and investments, plus $10 million per album for a minimum of three albums within the deal's term.
Jay-Z will also receive another $20 million for other rights including publishing and licensing. Live Nation is already producing the current Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige tour, which is putting up sellout numbers.
In related news, Jay has created an educational fund for the children of Sean Bell. Bell's widow, Nicole Bell, worked out the details of the fund along with her attorney.
It’s not clear yet the particular details of the agreement, but it is assumed the hip hop mogul's contribution will help send both of Bell’s children to college, should they choose to go.
Nicole Bell has been affiliated with Jay Z's Roc-A-Wear clothing line--appearing in the controversial "I Will Not Lose" campaign earlier this year.
