he’s been inspired by all this music alll his life, so why not involve it in his own work?
playing this video made me realise how great kanye’s music carear has been..
kanye has the gift to evolve music, he twists classics into his own unique theme, dont hate him for it
This isn’t exactly breaking news.
Plus, while some of the samples may still be fairly well-known, a LOT of them aren’t. At least not to the relatively younger generation. Given how past people play and dispose of music nowadays, sampling is probably the best way to keep some music alive.
But yeah, people hate on Kanye way too much. At least he’s standing out. Most rappers that try to stand out, don’t become popular. And most of the ones that do become popular, start putting out the same stuff we always hear.
So props to Kanye for keeping some of the older music alive and keeping things fresh.
He doesn’t keep it alive, he just takes a small sample and in a way totally overshadows the original song with bass and drums. Not to mention the Hip-Hop beats typically follows a 4 second rhythm, so realistically in terms of whether he’s supporting the originality of the song or not, he’s probably just indirectly leaching off their originality for his talent to sample.
Also using your logic, 50 Cent can just keep rapping about guns, bitches, cars, drugs, and money since he’s “keeping some of the older music alive.” But hey, I bought 808’s & Heartbreaks, I just dislike the idea of you trying too hard to defend an artist. West has a knack/good eye for sampling, that’s it.
in fact he has said how much he likes to sample old classic songs and put his own spin on it
i personally love it and i give kanye mad repsect for the things he has done in his career of music
the fact that he can apriciate such old music and use it to express himself in a way that nobody else really does
samples are becoming more and more common today and i think a lot of it has to do with kanye
theres nothing wrong with puttin a hip hop spin on old school music
and its not like he steals the sapmles, he has to get clearance to do it
i’ve listened to alot of these songs in the past but only since i had heard em on Kanyes albums…this video is like a Kanye/ classic music tribute lol
also did you all see the GOOD LIFE vid Kanye??….you can really see how much of a different person he is now…the happyness, the hair, everything…i really really noticed when i saw that just now….the old Kanye is gone forever…..
no shit, anybody with the tiniest bit of a brain could have told u that lol
1… It’s cool to keep other songs “alive” or pay homage or what not…
BUT… I can’t give credit to someone that used samples for 99.9% of their beats. I just can’t. Sorry.
It’s cool being inspired by artists, or their music…
But being inspired by & just flat out borrowing beat after beat after beat are 2 totally different things.
I’m not hating… but I remember when Puffy was killin’ the game with sample after sample…everybody bitched about it. NOW that Kanye is pretty much the new “Puffy”… it’s acceptable?
But then again…i’m not surprised at all. Just like i’m not surprised that T-pain borrowed and ran with Roger’s style and we accepted it…and rapper’s are now SINGIN’ ROCKERS…that ironically claim to be GANGSTERS!
Thugs in fitted jeans??? Interesting…
Anyways… it’s cool sampling and paying homage, or doing tributes. But if damn near every hit u had has a “sample” as its foundation….then u need to re-invent yaself, go put in some real work in the studio…or simply give it up.
Especially if u’r throwing bitch-fits because u’r not put on the “pedastool” that u think u deserve to be on.
Caps…good shit fam! Alot of yall are saying that if it wasnt for Kanye we wouldnt know about all of these artist existing. That’s BULLSHIT!
Not because i’m extremely musically inclined. But because YE’ NEVER talks about the originals that he steals.
UNLESS it’s someone obvious like Ray Charles, Luther, etc etc. But the lesser known people…he NEVER gives props to. He only lists their names….very small…in the credits. And that’s because HE HAS TO!
Stop trying to defend people and just state the obvious…
OBVIOUS STATMENT:
To be called a “super producer” he BORROWS far far too much! PERIOD! Regardless of how hott the tracks are.
~Be Eazy!
word
i would love for you to name me who you think a hip hop super producer is in your mind…..and let me just explain to you how much they borrow from other people too….
hip hop was built off sampling and therefore this argument is just ridiculous….
if you dont respect it as an art, fine, go make some akon beats or something….
the fact is, everyone and there fucking mother nowadays can and does produce and samples, and only a select few are recognized as legends in the game…..why??? if its so easy to do, why isnt everyone making beats like kanye, and primo and dilla……
i’m out
First off, I see u must be about 15 yrs old. If you only know about 2 or 3 of those songs, WTF can u say about music? You should be taking this all in… ABSORB some of this shit. Lil young muphukkas…

thats shits dumb annoying
Anyway an intelligent person would have realized that the intent of the video was not to “expose” Kanye of sampling, but show the ridiculousness (sp) of just HOW MUCH he samples. As a producer I would think he would have some original songs, and since he doesn’t seem to, I wouldn’t respect him as much someone who works hard to CREATE classic joints. As producer part of the talent is being able to create what most can’t.
dude is a sample attic
9th Wonder is da truth n he way better than Kanye
and then he even claims that, “he dont care what the critics say cause he knows his new album is a beautiful work of art” get the fuck outta here hes just doin the same old shit but whinin with autotune over it. theres nothin original goin on here.
plus: to all those who claim no one would know these songs if it wasnt for kanye is a fool.
ray charles, erika badu, shit man the list goes on and on > kanye west
I didnt know some of those songs because they were just before my time. He sampled songs from different time period/geners some shit that you would just have to know where it originated to know where he took it from.

timbo for the craziest beats, storch for the bass beats & swizzy for the ‘’jump around & through your hands in tha air’’ beats, u got Kanye for the sample beats..
Basically 808 coveted the whole thing.
Sampling is a great thing. When I found out where Jigga got the “Blueprint 2” beat from my face fuckin melted. Greatest sample of all time. Youtube it!!!!
Lol I’m on a phone man. It would take forever. Just youtube “blueprint 2” and in the related videos there will be an opera singer, orchestra. Listen to that song then jigga on blueprint 2 and that’s why I’m a believer. I don’t know how they listened to that beat and decided to rap on it. Truly great.
i mean sure, you can sample a few songs, aint nothin wrong with that but damn that was fuck-loads of songs he sampled. and i always thought kanye was a really original producer but after watching this my respect for him as a producer has dropped a lot. but with all that said he still has made some crzy hits from sampling but i aint gonna complain. i just hope he goes bak to bein the old kanye after this autotune mumbo jumbo hes doin nowadays.
He brings older music alive, that is a bad thing? People are just mad 808s did very well.
“Champion” was sampled from Steely Dan.
“Drunk and hot girls” was a really weird sample. German band, forgot the name, but it was so loosely sampled there was no need to credit it.
its still pizza but with a whole different flavor added to is
This is old news…plus its not really that bad to sample…who said it was bad? Three Six Sample more than Kanye…but Im sayin…its not like hes jackin beats…hes paying for all of them anyways yo…kinda weird this makes its own blog like 3-4 years later tho
Are you forgetting DJ Premier or something…best sampling producer of all time hands down!!
Kanye does know how to sample though and you realllly have to know music to be able to use samples so props to him
i’ve listened to alot of these songs in the past but only since i had heard em on Kanyes albums…this video is like a Kanye/ classic music tribute lol
also did you all see the GOOD LIFE vid Kanye??….you can really see how much of a different person he is now…the happyness, the hair, everything…i really really noticed when i saw that just now….the old K
Shut up your just mad Kanye is rich and your not.
he takes all the good samples
now i kno the exact ones
but come on kanye, its ok to sample 5 or 6 songs
but not the whole album
i mean ive always liked his workk and his producton is crazyy
but daamn..
he has to be one of the best producers out there,
he used so many simple samples for little things i never thought would be samples..if u know what i mean =]
so
J Dilla
No ID
Just Blaze
DJ Toomp
9th Wonder
Madlib
MF Doom
RZA
Preemo
Dr. Dre
….the list goes on…
they’re all biters???
all producers sample at least once, Kanye is just good at that. Stop hating honestly, its not about stannin, the above comments just have common sense in..something you should work on getting…
Jokesta you just a joke, fucc outta here, Kanye simply paid homeage to the great musicians that came before him, you really are an angry dude. What did you want to prove with this one? That you are a good researcher, no homie you just a biter. Get something more creative, even your favorite producers do this. Every album , if you ever have time to read the credits contains sample and 90% of all songs that become hits are from sample. Get your catalogue and music facts right. How old are you Jokesta. You sample the sample and come up with hit my dude.
but kanye never even produced touch the sky….just blaze did…..
but its a kanye track so who cares i guess
The things that gets me is….That he’s claims he’s tired of rap. Tired of using a sample to make a hip hop beat.
…..But…oh nevermind.
Peace!
