Fourth Quarter Showdown, Kanye Takes On Jay Z, 50 Reinvents The Wheel, Luda Retires
by on September 8th, 2008
It's that time of year again folks. We're once again approaching what many may consider the best time of our Hip Hop year--the notorious fourth quarter. With releases from Hip Hop heavyweights such as Jay Z, Kanye West, T.I., and Ludacris, 2008's fourth quarter is slated to bring nothing but gems.
Chicago MC Kanye West and his management have confirmed the release of his fourth LP tentatively titled, "Good Ass Job," while Jay Z has confirmed the long awaited "Blue Print III."
According to recent reports, the Roc-A-Fella allstars are rumored to be planning a December showdown in the same fashion as last years, September brawl between Fif & Kanye.
Jay Z recently released a street single off the "Blue Print III," entitled Jockin' Jay Z. The track, produced by Kanye West, has been in heavy rotation since its debut.
Last night at MTV's 2008 Video Music Awards, Kanye West debuted what is rumored to be the lead single off his forthcoming LP entitled "Love, Lockdown."
The pseudo-rock single, marks a drastic departure for West, as it features no rapping, and is sung using an Auto-Tune. It will be on Itunes available for purchase today, Monday, September 8th.
Other noteable releases this fourth quarter come from hip hop giants 50 Cent and Ludacris.
Fif's "Before I Self Destruct," will be his last album on Interscope Records. According to Fif, he plans on reinventing the wheel this time around.
“[Other rappers] can take what I’ve done for the last five years and do their version of it and be successful with momentum,” the G-Unit head told Rolling Stone. “Meanwhile, I have to reinvent the wheel.”
50 also says he’s tuned out most of the music out now, trying to find a zone of his own.
”I’m not really listening to anyone else’s record. Now I’m in another space where I gotta make what I’m excited about,” he added.
"Theater Of The Mind," will be Ludacris sixth solo effort and may mark the end to the rappers musical career.
In a recent interview with the LA Times, Luda says he isn't planning on doing music much longer and would rather concentrate on his budding acting career.
“I can see a point where acting is my full-time job, really,” he tells the Los Angeles Times.
"Theater Of the Mind" will hit stores on Halloween.
Yonkers rapper, Jadakiss, will also be dropping his forthcoming LP, "Kiss My Ass," this Halloween.
The LP will mark the rappers debut on Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam records and will feature the long awaited Biggie Smalls tribute, "Letter To Big."
With Blueprint III arriving in December, Kanye possibly releasing his 4th album the same month, 50, Luda, and Jadakiss all dropping new material- - hip-hop may be in for an exciting Christmas.

Some of those titles ass too.. besides 50 and Jay names..
PLIES DA REALEST DEC 16.
“good ass job” is a funny title. you know, you graduate now you wanna go and get a “good ass job”. if not that then he could call it “unemployment because of a flooded market, and a struggling economy.” UBOAFMAASE for short. Or he could call it “outsourcing”. Just a thought.
“Letter to Big” will probably end up being a tight track but who has been waiting for it???? I could’ve swore the L.O.X. first single released on bad boy was “We’ll always love Big Poppa”. THEIR FIRST SINGLE!!!!!!!!! It’s little stuff like that that always sticks out to me like a soar thumb in an article. whateva.
My 4th quarter hype-o-meter.
Jay-Z- yes
Kanye- i guess
Luda- okay
Jada- yep
50- he’s had enough second chances
2008 got heaters droppin’ like ‘96-’98 did………
NOT gettin kanye album…he fuckin up this year and i wasnt really feelin the last album too much, i think most of it was hype from the 50/ye competition
but definitly gettin jada, probably 50 and jay, and maybe luda and t.i.
and why u bring up curtis? i didnt even say anything about curtis
yea, curtis was fuckin trash…TOS was CRAZY
i have a feeling fif is gonna step it up for this album
u also forgot…
eminem album
but yea all those albums sound great kanyes gonna b sick i didnt hear his new shit tho, bp3 is a no brainer, theater of mind will b aite, im excited for jada he been droppin fire lately, but what about detox n ems new album n fifty? i guess they all got pushed back what a shame… also im hopin for juelz album by the end of the year
i tried to ride w/ Fif as a fan but out of all the ones coming out he’s the least i’m excited about! not to mention Em might be dropping King Mathers later this year!
other than that im lookin foward too all the albums. good 2 see jadakiss make a comeback
I WILL HAVE TIME TO HEAR LUDA & 50 CENT AT SOME POINT WHEN THEY DROP.
Joe Budden Padded Room oct 28th!!!
and jadakiss late october early november!!!
I read on allhiphop.com that kanye [rumor]may be using the vocodor throughout his whole album, i hope not because he will lose me as a fan
Luda n ti
50 n jada
Kanye n jay
And then collectivly see with week sold the most
“good ASSJOB”….he might as well put no homo on that title.
He should stick with his college titles and call it Honours, Masters or at least find a better name than good ASSJOB.
Kanye vs 50 (rematch? lol) Kanye will win in sales and have the better CD…but 50 is usually great under pressure, his first single has to be the best since ‘in da club’ for him to have any chance at all….cuz love lockdown is FIRREEE…damn 50 got way too much pressure on him

PLIES DA REALEST DEC 16.
Jada, luda, Jay-Z & Kanye are better than plies. DAMN 50 better than plies and I don’t even listen to 50.
PLIES DA FAKEST, DEC 16. DON’T DOWNLOAD IT, DON’T BUY IT, JUST SLEEP ON IT
and what the hell is kanye doin wit that bullshit.. i know singing and bein soft is in 4 rappers but thats the worst song out of all of them
And what’s with this rappers retiring early? Game trying to retire, Luda’s trying. I know rapping is a young man’s game, but they still have alot of good years in them, look at Jiggerman!! I think they realise that there’s no money in the rap game anymore and trying to get that hollywood paper. But man, these rappers are so disrespectful. Because they tried their entire lives to reach to this spot and wanted to be this big in hip hop and now, once they got here, they’re like, fuck it, i’m bored. Eminem did the same thing and didn’t drop anything. Where’s the consideration for the fans?
and i’m lookin foward to jay’s album i have a feeling it’s gonna be good.
ReDef.

Just because the niggas wanna stop fuckin with the unit and hate don’t mean its garbage. T.O.S. arguably the hardest cd out this year, the nigga did 150k copys first week not to good for G-unit numbers but the best group album of the last couple years. Curtis like 800k first week, not the greatest 50 cent numbers but thats top notch for any other rapper in the game that easily went on to plat. And I aint even gonna comment on his first two albums, both are classics hands down in the rap game.
And Ludacris RETIRING after his 6th album? You can’t be serious, the south NEEDS this man. Like Christians need Jesus. Why you got people like luda and game trying to retire, and people like mike jones still trying to push past 50,000 records?
Shits fucked up!
1) drought in da industry = less money
2) acting = more money garrented (excuse spelling)
3) pluss really its ez and less work.. more options
they smart by leaving da rapping and goin 2 acting
good for them.. bad for us
jigga gone out sell them all
50 sucks
how is t.i. gonna have a showdown with kanye with his lead single being produced by kanye…
t.i. album will be fire he been puttin out hot tracks the last month-2 months
luda shit should be good im expectin more now that its his last…preview was fire hopefully album follows up.
i never liked 50 cept for get rich die tryin but if he say somethin he does it so maybe he will reinvent the wheel
i didnt like kanyes last song and his first 3 albums were great maybe 2 classics but he due for a flop and i got a feelin its good ass job
