Drake Discusses "Fears" 8 Month Process, Sheds Light On "Thank Me Later"
by on October 27th, 2009
With his EP still doing fairly well on the charts, Canadian rapper Drake sat down with Shockhound.com for a candid interview on the direction of his upcoming solo debut album "Thank Me Later", as well as his single "Fear" In a statement that may surprise many fans of the rapper, he revealed the the single "Fear" took him eight months to write, because he felt that he lacked the experience to write a song which he intended to be so raw and introspective.
"I did one-and-a-half verses of 'Fear'and quit, I had stopped after I said the line, 'I never cried when Pac died, but I probably will when Hov does.' I took a break after that because I didn't know where to go from there, and my story wasn't complete yet. I didn't have the song title. I didn't have the hook. I didn't know where I was going with it. I just knew I had a place to start, so I let it sit for six to eight months."
When he finally did finish the song, he said that it was eventually what he was trying to make, saying that it was very reflective of where he was at the moment. The rising star also spoke about about his upcoming album, shedding some more details on the expected sound.
"Lyrically, I want to keep the album as genuine and honest as 'Fear' is, but musically there will be a little more energy. There will be more moments of triumph, because my life is the best it's ever been in my 22 years of existence. I want my music to reflect that, but I still want to be able to relate and connect with people."
Fear Is currently in heavy rotation at radio stations all over, despite some outcries from fans that he took a cheap shot at 2pac in the song.

i like when rappers rap about everyday life, joell ortiz does it best, u can relate to almost everything he says
~ i’m so mayo
~im so mayo
he can still respect pac even tho he aint cry fa him
anyway,
Jay has been the main influence of the culture, like it or not. His influence on everything since he came out has literally changed the game mutiple times.Name a more influential rapper in the culture. Cuz Pac did alot in the time he was here, but he never reached the status or the plateaus that Jay has. Shit not even Nas, LL Cool J, Reakwon,Scareface or Ice Cube have made that much of an impact and they’ve been out just as long…
Niggas, stop being so sentive.
moving on,
This niggas’ Album is sounbdung like it will be pretty good. I’m sure he won’t disappoint,It’s DRIZZY,lol. When does the nigga come halfassed on a song? I can’t fake like he doesn’t have songs i don’t like (and that he’s a cornball as a person) but the kid makes quality shit. It’s alot better than listening to some of these weak ass wannabe rappers(OJ,Gucci) and niggas with thier fabricated lives(Game,Plies) and recycled punchlines(Flo-rida,Wayne). I just wann hear a nigga trying to keep it real with you, if you ain’t lived that or you can’t spit, I’m tossing your disc.Plain and simple, and I don’t care if another nigga bought it.
that was probably the most homo shit i ever read on this website
andrei this nigga tripping on some homo potion number 9 shit !!
I didn’t cry when Pac died…I was sad as fuck but I didn’t shed a tear. How is that a diss, it’s a fact. I don’t get how people love making something big out of nothing…it’s like everyone is trying and thinking too hard when listening to lyrics…just listen.
y’all the illes cats on this blog
