The Top Ten Flops Of 07
by on December 31st, 2007
If you go on other sites, they'll most likely tell you about the highest sales and the most slept on albums of the year. We the great people of Defsounds understands that sometimes, the most slept on.. Are also some of the lowest selling albums of the whole year. I'm not saying that every album that flopped was underated, because lets face it; Most of them deserved what they sold. But here are the Top 10 of the Bottom. Some of the albums are up here because of the whole background and drama of the release date, the overall history of the rapper/group and last but not least.. The ones that just didn't sell..
10. Consequnce - Don’t Quit Your Day Job
March 6, 2007 was not a good day for The Conse. He finally drops his long waiting G.O.O.D. Music album debut and debuted at #113 on The Billboard 200, selling 7,490 units. The first that comes to mind is “Where was the promotion” Or at least, where was the marketing. The sad thing about this is.. His album was actually nice.
9. Boyz n da Hood - Back Up n da Chevy
It seems as if the only thing good about Boyz n da Hood is that they have at least one rapper each year that can make a hit record on his own. Kinda makes you feel sorry about Big Gee, Duke, and Jodi Breeze. Which also hurts because, that means they’re gonna be under the thumb of Diddy for another 1,000 years. (The Feelings and Statements in This Article Does Not Reflect the Views of Defsounds.com. Please don’t sue!) Even though they debuted at #55 on The Billboard 200 on October 2, the “N.W.A” of the South only moved about 15,700 units.
8. Pharoahe Monch - Desire
Mr. Monch didn’t really get the same result as he probably thought that he would. Seeing how everyone this year were just begging for real and down to earth Hip-Hop; His album and many of the Underground and Backpack artists suffered the same fate. Not enough marketing and poor album sales. Too bad Myspace promo’s on the featured artist section wasn’t enough. Better luck next year Pharoahe, maybe next year you can possibly sales at least 13,000 copies.
7. Little Brother - Get Back
Phonte and Big Pooh, puts together of one the most slept on Albums of the year. In my opinion they just keep getting better year after year. From “The Listening”, to “The Minstrel Show” they haven’t been able to get the commercial success that they really deserve. After the departure of 9th Wonder (So he can focus on other projects) the album sounded as if they had back up producers who have been waiting to fill the void. The lyrics were of course on point, but the fact still remains… They only manage to debut at #89 on The Billboard 200. And the sales didn’t even touch 20,000 falling 3,000 units short.
6. The Albums Mobb Deep Put Out Separately

It really wouldn’t make sense given both of the Queens Bridge duo two slots, when they’ve both put out solo projects. So let’s throw it all in one big pot that says flop shall we? Now, even though Prodigy’s “Return of The Mac” was just a sample of the quality of his upcoming “H.N.I.C 2” album; It’s still an album that didn’t sell well. Matter of fact, this album wouldn’t be on my list if it wasn’t for the event that’s passed. With Prodigy facing jail time; Mobb would have to be represented by Havoc, who made his solo project debut “Kush”. And, we all know how that went.. Ouch.
Don’t worry Hip-Hop Heads numbers 5-1 is still on the way..
Peace [O_O]

It’s like rock music started out all square and shit until people started makin it their own. Rock has different types, punk rock fans dont really listen to classic or alternitive.
The point is that all of them are alive.
HIP HOP can no longer be categorized under 1 name we have to divide them cause I’ll be damned if Mims is in the same genre as Jay Z or Lupe or Andre.
dat tells u dat HIP HOP IS DEAD n Jermaine Dupri needs to stop fuckin preaching to da fuckin choir sayin “Hip Hop is just changin” cuz dat gives assholes like Soulja Boy, D4L, Mims, Jibbs & Huey n all dem reasons to come in da rap game n fuck it all up!!! prop me if i’m right
This was a good write up though, looking forward to the second half. Sucks that some of the best, most pure lyrically can’t sell, but that’s how the industry is and sadly has been, and it’s fucked up that they can’t get promotion like they should to at least have a chance. Cause honestly someone like Pharoahe Monch who’s one of my favorite artists, I had NO idea he was dropping another album till it was pretty much out. If even the loyal fans don’t have an idea about when to expect the release of artist’s material, there’s no hope for them selling to the rest of the public….
but sadly thats jus a opinion and a fact in my eyes.
You need some new music son.
flop
But lets be reall
There some gems on both albums
But the shit wasnt on par with mobb quality
or even mobb deep mixtape quality(check mobb misses, whoo kid 17,1st infantry,9/11 mixtape, for refernces on that ass)
and blu & exile those are two of the better albums of 07 for sure
the blu could be classic
Also, the dude demarcus has a good point. Much respect there.

FLOPPED (But was a good album)
I look at “flop” when an artist decreases in his musical ability not sales. sales don’t really mean shit especially not in this bootleg era. “Curtis” was probably one of if not the biggest flop in 07’. That was by far his worst album. Also even from a sales standpoint “Curtis” was a flop. Compared to his previous 2 albums Curtis didn’t do shit.
Free At Last, Made, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), Eardrum, Finding for ever, Solution, were all great albums. Yea they didn’t sell but in terms of good music they’re all waaaaaayyyyyy superior to Curtis.
and to Charismatic, 8 diagrams did hit platinum, Billboard/RIAA said so
Da God~ I agree…
Free At Last, Made, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), Eardrum, Finding for ever, Solution, were all great albums.
But as far as Finding Forever and Eardrum… they weren’t better than the 2 previous albums: BE and Beautiful Struggle in no way shape or form!
Now Styles P gave me MORE than I expected from him…so I was pleased… With Beans, I liked The B-Coming better.
Solution was missing a :Purple Rain and Bread N Butter caliber song.
BARS – It was aiight… I’m just expecting MORE from CASS…I mean everyone has the same style now. Time for a change up!
American Gangster was hott, But, Kingdom Come was a better album. More complete.
Fab’s album was missing a lot… it just didnt do it for me.
GHOSTFACE – shit was hott…one of the best released in a while!
TI’s decent album…but then again…I like KING better.
Scarface – Good album
Lupe’s – I really have mixed feelings about this. I mean lyrically it’s decent… But I find myself skipping through a lot of songs. I gave em all a chance but to be honest… It’s BORING!
Wu Tang – uh… in no way shape or form is this album fuckin’ with FOREVER.
Still a great 4th quarter!
~Be Eazy!
What direction is the movment going in?…..I DONT KNOW….DO YOU.
I ain’t saying dat da violent shit is da only thang good in hip hop but still, if u gotta sit there n keep preachin bout “Its paying!” cuz its poppin on da radio, if ya think bout it, most females listen to dance music than males do, learn dat!!!
i really liked Little Brother’s, Consequences, and prodigy’s
listen 2 disperse of his album
