Pretty good song, Nas spit some fire, but i think the Beastie Boys are a little overrated. Still a good group.

dude… Hip-Hop needed the Beastie Boys to come back. You wanna talk about underrated. nobody gives the boys their props.

sidenote: seein them at Lollapalooza this year. GONNA BE DOPE!!!

can’t wait for the album. Beastie Beastie Boys finally gettin live back in the spot and still puttin shame in erbody else’s game…

I think they get too much credit. I mean they are good but they get so much recognition because they are white and they have strange beats.

jflow9314 months ago
Too much credit?! They are hip-hop pioneers. They are what made hip-hop viable and made it sell. that Rick Rubin sound that fused rap and rock was put in the public eye by the Beastie Boys.

and you say they overrated cause they are white?! get out of here with that bullshit. and the production they and people like the Dust Brothers did for them on their albums deserve recognition.

and why would people like Just Blaze sample them (which he does alot) and people like Nas fuck with them if they weren’t dope?

Beastie Boys are hip-hop legends. recognize.

I never said they were a bad group or anything, actually I said the exact opposite. People sample soulja boy, but does that mean hes good or even great. No.
And yes, they are slightly overrated because they are white. A group like The Roots are way better than the Beastie Boys, but they get less recognition because they are regualr black rappers.

I dont really like the beastie boys……………..i just dont

Nas of course is my top 3 rappers of alltime.

what they’re saying in the song is truth:
“too many rappers and still not enough emcees” :soulja boy, plies, gucci man,oj da juiceman, etc

what noted producer has sampled Soulja Boy? I’d really like to know.

The Roots are crazy good but they are not accessible like the Beastie Boys. if anything people look down on the Beastie Boys because they are white. You can’t compare them to anybody because they are so awesomely left field. They are constantly pushin hip-hop forward with creativity. dudes won a Grammy off of just an instrumental record…

drdreezy0014 months ago
They may not sample soulja boy on the chorus or something, but they sample his beats. And im not trying to say soulja boy is a good rapper by the way.

But people wouldnt look down on them because they are white. People say its refreshing to hear a white rapper that doesnt talk about dealing drugs and stuff. That is one of the reason Asher Roth has had such a big impact since he has released. And many people have won Grammys off of instrumental songs, so that really proves nothing.

@drdreezy – please name a prominent producer that has sampled soulja boy’s beats or “sound”. you can tell me shit all day but till you back it up with somethin other than a vague statement you aren’t provin shit.

You can’t compare Asher Roth to the Beastie Boys. Just like you can’t compare Eminem to Asher Roth. Or the Beastie Boys to Eminem. It doesn’t make sense.

In fact I really can’t compare the Beastie Boys to anyone else because they are so unique. You could maybe say they riffed off of Run DMC but both groups rose to prominence at the same time so that argument kinda falls flat.

“And many people have won Grammys off of instrumental songs, so that really proves nothing. " – It was an entire album they won the Grammy for. and if “many people” have won them then name some please. you are killin me with these vague rebuttals.

@Jflow

They won the Grammy for that instrumental CD (The Mix-Up), but the category was Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album, which means it had to be instrumental. And there are many artists that i could list that have won a Grammy with an instrumental album, because they have categories for instrumental albums only.

Also, im only saying, do you think Asher Roth has been getting extra attention because he is white and he has a strange sound. Just like the Bestie boys are white and they have a strange sound.

And as for the Soulja Boy thing, Iknow J.R. Rotem has sampled him on more than one occasion, but it is also to remember who all has sampled soulja boy, mainly because i dont spend all day on the internet looking up random shit.

Im Mike D and I get respect!!
Your cash and your jewelry is what i expect!!!!

Beasite been puttin it down for fuckin years man. DrDreezy for some reason I think you are 12 and the only song youve heard from them is intergalactic. JFlow, knows what it is.

If you dont think they have an influence on rap, they were the first to reach #1 Rap album on the billboards EVER. NWA has sampled the Beastie Boys and so didnt Eazy E a lot. The Beastie Boys were talking about guns, girls, partying, and all that shit before NWA even was!! Their first album could be classified as “gangsta” if you look at the lyrics which came before NWA even did it! And look at NWA’s (who smaples Beastie Boys and rapped about similar topics) influence on the game.

IMO, hiphop has moved on… its entirely changed. its not dead, but its not as good as is was in the 90s. but still these type of beats won’t work in this modern world. everyone’s past that era. sure lyrics are a vital part of rap, but if the beat is weak, the overall vibe dies out. these old school rappers (rakim, beasti boys, raekwon, nas, gza, wu tang), need to understand that. real talk

Nas was on the 8 mile soundtrack, and em has produced a couple songs for him. They’ve just never actually rapped together. Nas even shouts him out in songs from time to time.

Old rappers may not have the type of “hot beatz” the new school hip hop heads or the teeny bopper Mtv crowd enjoys, but it doesn’t mean people who have been bumping this kind of music for a while now have to stop. I enjoyed the Beastie Boy’s sound then and I enjoy it now, I enjoy DMX’s sound with It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and if he came out with the same sound again, I’d still enjoy it. I listen to music for my personal taste reargless of “what’s hot” or what MTV and 106 and Park says is popular. This music may not be “evolved” but personally I could care less what it sells, it still sounds good to me.
