50 Talks About Rappers With Credibility
by on July 7th, 2009
In an industry where an artist can be considered one of the hardest rappers in the game in one instant, and then be exposed as a fraud the very next; The credebility of Hardcore gangsta rap has shown a steady decline in popularity amongst many fans.
But with Hip Hop seemingly headed in another direction the Queens rapper still found time to discuss rappers that he felt were legit with their stories.
In a recent interview with XXL, 50 Cent weighed in on the correlation between rappers’s questionable street creds and the lack of interest in gangsta rap. He spoke about two artist in particular, the first was rapper Plies.
“With Plies, if you say he’s a college kid, so what? I wish I was a college kid. I wish I didn’t grow up under the circumstances I had to grow up under. I would have liked to just go to college and study business. I see him rap about the girls a lot, so that’s true, from my perspective, Plies, his strong hit records are about females…and ‘Bust It Baby’ and that type of material. To me that’s authentic. He gon get the girls. You see him, decked out, he’s right, girls like him. That’s official.”
Things didn't go as well when 50 talked about his current nemesis Rick Ross who was exposed for being a Correction Officer in the early 90's
“What was awkward was being part of law enforcement and completely writing drug dealer material and the biggest drug dealer in the world material, that was a little bit fictional. I mean hip-hop in general…I don’t think anybody is actively out, anybody with good sense ain’t actively out doing exactly what they said on the record or they won’t actually last cause you’ll get attention from law enforcement based on what you saying.”
50 continued to throw shots at Ross, saying; “Can you imagine what it’s like…when you convince the general public that you’re that person, you’re also convincing law enforcement, this is why you don’t see me out and about as often as you see these other guys at frivolous events, just wherever. I’m not with it.”
50 currently has a new mixtape out titled "Forever King."

I AGREE 100PERCENT WITH WHAT HE SAID………………..HE’S JUST BEING HONEST I DON’T EVEN SEE THIS AS A DISS TOWARDS ROSS I DON’T THINK A REAL DRUG DEALER WOULD SAY HE SELLS DRUGS ALSO O DON’T EVEN THINK AMERICA HAS BIG TIME DRUG DEALERS ANYMORE ARE LAWS ARE TO STRICT.(deeper than rap is still a dope album)
bottom line i rather fuck wif plies than officer ricky
Your Friendly Neighborhood
pop may sell but real rap should be aggressive, for the streets. aint shit real about plies. suck a fat one asshole!
oh, and Forever King goes hard! if u like some 90’s slow jams mixed in
i dont like Plies but that nigga has more credibility than Ross.
Plies music focuses mostly on the females, you dont really hear him rapping about shit he has never done.
look at Ross, that fat nigga has based his whole image on something he has probably never done being that he used to work Law Enforcement.
so u cant really knock Plies.
but in my eyes, Ross is nothing.
he has some good songs but its hard for me to listen to him knowing that most of his lyrics are bullshit.
anyways real gansters are invisible and dont brag the greatest mob bosses always said THE MOB DONT EXIST!!!!!!!!!
if ur gonna play a role play THAT role. fuck the labels! rappers is slaves for these muhfuckas!
But its like I tell my students many didnt know any better it was purely expression of what they witnessed, funny Pac wised up and didn’t wanna rap about being a “THUG” any more (dnt take my word for it look it up tha interviews are online) but he tried to kill that noise in his latter career bcuz he saw what it was doing, then all of a sudden it got kool to talk about how many drugs you pushin, how you flipping weight.
All BS aside Ijust think it deserved its own genre. Yes tha definition of Hip-Hop allows free range to contribute to tha art form, but I tire of beginning lectures with premeditated ignorant thoughts where students say where’s real Hip-Hop like gangsta rap, but then they hate on tha new microwave rappers hot for a few months then its something new. So they givin us catch hooks and corny dances, and then we have murder, dope, sellin, and stories of sleeping with women. But thas Hip-Hop, its freedom, it isn’t women, guns, and drugs…or corny dances and snap music its all of it; thank tha Lord we had artist like Pac who used there gift to reach people everywhere because it wasn’t his gangster talk that made him it was his ability to be him. He came in saying, “I bust my glock die everybody die” and left saying BETTER DAYS and CHANGE, and both were him, but I still wish gangster talk would’ve been given its own place straight up.
Go grab tha “Message” and tha “Breaks” classic Hip-Hop, dnt even know what this credibility BS talk is, plain and simple it doesn’t belong. Why should I believe a rapper who’s been shot is kooler than one that hasnt, tell me how it felt, how it made you feel, not that you’re “realer” or more credible than someone else, yea maybe if I got shot and need help coping, these rappers today are brainwashing yall.
2 fingers
Who’s gonna cry when this clown dies?
peace.
as a rapper and business man give ‘em about as much props as I give Puff. as a man tho, naaaw…if he offered me a deal I’d hafta think it over lol.
peace
but like jay rock he spits grimey gang bang shit… n at the end of april he was hauled in n hes a prime suspect in a driveby shootin.. so like hes got his buzz n shit goin n i think hes a promising artist to bring the western movement back but theres a possibility hes thrown it
then u got game who alot of people question his credibility… but he lived in compton so wether or not he was actively bangin or not his best mate was an active banger as were his brother n im sure alot of people he knew was.. its a lifestyle so maybe he did or didnt do it.. but he knows wat hes talkin bout so i give him respect on sheddin light on it n makin it big…
but ross.. he was law enforcer n talkin he pushed kilos n says he still is lol… if hes pushin kilos y is he makin records that create poor sells?/ hed b better off quitin music goin on the downlow n keep selling kilos [although he never has but u get wat im sayin]
?
co-sign. everything u said is no news flash to me. I jus wish rappers would be more consistent with their content, pertaining to their character.
I hate it when ppl say hip-hop is jus entertainment tho. did Public Enemy entertain any of you (25+ crowd) when they tried to raise black awareness?
screw that entertainment jazz! those bums can tap dance for these crackers all they want. I want inspiration in my tunes
ok I can dig it but how does that make HIM a real nigga? I mean “real” on Pac’s level.
anybody can write a song about how messed up someone’s life is.
and if he’s soooo real, why’s he gotta keep stressin it?
real recognize real, and I say plies is a puppet! with gold strings attached
ok u got me
but to me, real is livin what u rap. but we’re all clear that nobody in the rap game is 100% real
LMAO!! How old are you bruh?? You one of those internet thugs… GO live life bruh. Make something outta yourself, rather than TRYING to be hard on line. Your words don’t move me. D-Block is hard but who are you? Exactly… Now let this marinate in your brain and hopefully motivate you to do something with your life, rather than being on other niggaz nuts and playing the role…….. Word of advise; Don’t go to any city talking that “fuck this” or “fuck your city” cause shit is real out here bruh.
I feel you on cats needing to be more consistant with their stuff bruh… Now, Maybe I said it wrong, or I did not explain myself correctly but Hip-Hop/Rap is entertainment.. True- Public E.was raising black awareness back in the day but they also wanted to entertian ppl. Tell me what’s the meaning of “shows”. When an artist has a show, what do they do?? You’re going to tell me that P.E. never had any shows? Pac, who rose a “thug” movement didn’t have any shows???
What bums were you referring too in regards to your comment stating that these bums can tap dance all they want for these crackers??
What I’m itno and what I look for in an artist is their LYRICAL content. That’s what Hip-hop was at one point. NIggaz who can spit, right? What ever happened to that?? anyone can make words rhyme…
