New York rapper 50 Cent may be one of the few Hip Hop power players who won't necessarily be cosigning rising Canadian rapper Drake.
Fif, who exploded onto the scene in 2002, says his buzz back then isn't really comparable to Drake's today because it may not necessarily be organic.
XXLMag.com recently spoke to the G-Unit General about his opinion on the hype surrounding the former Degrassi star and the comparisons many critics have been drawing between him and the up-and-coming rapper’s buzz.
“I didn’t hear that, I don’t think you can accomplish that right now,” Fif told XXL about his rise to fame back in '02.
“Not without finance. I hear his record on the radio. He got a good buzz, I hear him. Shit, it wasn’t possible for my music to be on the radio when I was coming. You know mine’s was completely organic.“
“When you hear a song on the radio it means it’s being worked,” he explained.
“Ain’t nothing there just because, enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he’s on a label. You know I’m sure Sylvia Rhone or Universal — they’re spending money to get the record played. They got the public feeling like its just happening.”
When reminded that Drake, has yet to accept any label offers, Fif responded, “He might not be signed yet, but they may work it to get him to sign. Is it worth it to sign until you develop that?”
Though Drake may not be signed to a maor label as of yet, his hit single "Best I Ever Had" is currently being sold by retailers under "Frozen Moments" music label.

He had Em, Dre and Interscope behind him so of course he’s gonna have a big buzz. Plus he used the publicity of a beef and getting shot to hype himself up.

when i first saw in da club the video was in a footlocker n the hood that was packed and once everybody heard that " go go go go go" the place went into dead silence to watch tha video. After some thought I understand what asshole, I mean 50 is saying. His buzz was organic, meaning the nigga was hot without being on the radio, without paying djs. Hot on his on merit. I remember, the nigga was definitely known, at least in NY, right before air play. Music was strictly in the street. Who is comparing drake to 50 anyway? That was a dumbass question and I don’t think anyone’s heard that.

Well, there’s a lot of stuff that goes into this.
50 Cent was offered tools, he put them to use and they repaid him. Not to mention, those that went through the Aftermath/Shady camp didn’t all come out bangin’ like 50 did. 50 did something right.
Drake on the other hand, you guys must have forgotten..I doubt he’d get this amount of buzz if he wasn’t on Degrassi. He’d just be put down like 90% of artists starving for the attention he has.
Look, Ja Rule was the biggest Artist in the game at that time. They had beef before 50 was signed and after the deal. Believe me, 50 sold more albums in the South than you would know. Everyone wanted something knew and that was 50 at the time. Then when 50 started dissing “Southern Artist” (wayne, t.i.) no one is checking for him anymore.
Now, like I said 50 had the beef with Ja, kept talking about “I got shot 9 times”, had Em, Dre and Interscope. How could 50 pay 30,000 per day for security?

I don’t know where you getting your info but Drake’s “buzz” is from Wayne’s effect not no damn Degrassi, hell if anything his hate and people doubting his potential is generated from being on Degrassi. I read you trying to make that point but its more of an opinion than a legitimate fact. Drake said during a interview my best move was trusting Wayne, and tha past coupje months prove that. He was pushed right onto Tour unexpectedly by Wayne, bcuz he thought after hearing his “A Milli” free style Drake was worth being flown out and put on tour. They performed “bus studio” tracks like Ransom Note and Go In and people see he’s tha real deal, along wit other hot sh*t, thas where his “buzz” came from not to mention Internet websites such as this one and others pumping his shtuff.
Which leads me to confusion, why tha hell people acting like tha radio played Best I Ever Had and he got hot.
